Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart is set to sign a new contract with the Premier League champions.

Hart, 27, has reportedly been in discussions with the club over a possible new five-year deal since the summer.

City boss Manuel Pellegrini told a media conference on Friday: "I always said it is important for this club to keep Joe with us.

"Maybe in the next day you will have good news."

The England goalkeeper's existing contract is due to expire in 2016.

Pellegrini added: "He is a very good goalkeeper and not only a very good goalkeeper, he is a very important player for the squad also.

"The arrival of Willy Caballero was very important for the club, for Joe. The best way for players to have high performance is when they have important competition."

Hart's team-mates Sergio Aguero, Samir Nasri, Vincent Kompany and David Silva all signed new five-year deals at the Etihad Stadium in the summer.
