Jersey Football Association in match talks with 12 clubs

Jersey's FA have had responses from 12 clubs who are interested in playing the island side as they look to increase their games programme.

Jersey so far have just two confirmed matches for the rest of this season but more are expected to be announced.

"People don't hear anything and they assume nothing's happening," said the Jersey FA's Iain MacKenzie.

"I've had 12 positive responses from clubs, but you can imagine how many I've contacted," he told BBC Sport.

MacKenzie previously organised the Jersey International Football tournament and still arranges friendly fixtures around Europe.

Last month, the JFA appointed former Aston Villa manager Brian Little as their first-ever director of football with the aim of increasing the number of fixtures the senior island side plays.

But Jersey have to ensure that any matches do not impact too heavily on the island's domestic league programme and Springfield Stadium, in St Helier, is currently out of use until March as a new synthetic pitch is being laid in time for the 2015 Island Games.

"We're hoping to get an away trip in February with a Welsh league team - everything's agreed apart from the date," MacKenzie said

"There's a huge amount of effort and activity going on.

"I've spoken to a number of clubs in the south and north west of England, in Wales and Scotland - places where we can fly on a direct flight.

"One thing people forget is that Jersey has a league of fixtures going on and the teams we want to play also play in leagues. The trick is fitting it in," MacKenzie added.
