New Notts County signing Billy Daniels only played four times for Coventry City this season and his winner against Crewe was his first goal

Debutant Billy Daniels struck late to give Notts County their first win in seven games and send Crewe Alexandra into the League One relegation zone.

Liam Noble's penalty put County ahead just before half-time after Kwame Thomas was hauled down by Jon Guthrie.

Jamie Ness drove home Crewe's equaliser just 46 seconds into the second half.

But substitute Daniels, who joined from Coventry on Thursday, earned all three points with a terrific volley before Noble was sent off in injury time.

Noble, who was back in the side after suspension, saw red for a second caution.

The Magpies move up to tenth in the table, two points outside the play-off places.

Notts County manager Shaun Derry told BBC Radio Nottingham:

Derry on Notts v Crewe

"It's a welcome win. We've not had two many good results at Meadow Lane and it's nice to start the year with one. After the past six or seven games where we've not got a lot of points it was a vital win.

"What a great goal from Billy, It was a fantastic finish from him, it was a top, top goal from a very good young player who we hope will have a long career here.

"The performance was testament to the belief we have here."
