Stoke City duo Peter Crouch and Glenn Whelan have signed two-year contract extensions with the club.

Both striker Crouch, 33, and midfielder Whelan, 31, would have been out of contract this summer.

Crouch is their record signing, having cost £10m from Tottenham in 2011.

Boss Mark Hughes said: "They are both fantastic professionals who had contributed a great deal to Stoke City long before I joined the club and have continued to do so."

Former England forward Crouch has scored 37 goals in 140 appearances for Stoke.

Republic of Ireland international Whelan joined the club from Sheffield Wednesday in 2008, helping the Potters reach the Premier League. He has scored eight goals in 248 games for the club.
