Eliot Richards: Cheltenham Town player has testicular cancer

Cheltenham Town forward Eliot Richards has been diagnosed with testicular cancer, the club has announced.

Welshman Richards, 23, began his career at Bristol Rovers and joined Cheltenham in February 2015 after being released by League Two rivals Tranmere.

He came on as a half-time substitute in Saturday's loss to Plymouth, the same day his diagnosis was made public.

"The appropriate treatment has been arranged, which will include surgery early next week," said a statement., external

"The club will of course ensure that every assistance is offered to Eliot and his family to help them through this difficult time.

"In due course we expect Eliot to make a full recovery. In the meantime we know that all Cheltenham supporters will want to join us in wishing Eliot and his family well in the days and weeks ahead."
