Swansea City defender Kyle Naughton is out for the rest of the season after injuring his ankle during Saturday's 3-1 home win against Hull City.

David Meyler was sent off for his high challenge on the former Tottenham defender at the Liberty Stadium.

Swansea says scans ruled out a fracture, but confirmed ligament damage, ruling 26-year-old Naughton out for around six weeks.

Garry Monk's side have seven remaining games in the top flight this season.

Despite the injury, Monk did not believe it was a malicious challenge by Hull midfielder Meyler.

"I think it was a genuine 50-50 challenge," said Monk.

"My initial reaction was it was a bad challenge, whether it was a red card or not I don't know, but I don't think there was any malice from the player [Meyler].

"He didn't go in to hurt Kyle, but if your foot's a little bit high and you go over the ball then you always run that risk [of getting sent off]."

Naughton's injury allowed Angel Rangel to come off the bench for his first appearance since 7 February.
