Dave Edwards: Current Wolves team like one that won title

Midfielder Dave Edwards believes the current Wolves team is much like the one that won the Championship in the 2008-09 season.

Wales international Edwards, 29, scored a late winner as Wolves beat Leeds 4-3 on Monday to move up to sixth position.

"It's an exciting bunch of players here and it takes me back to when we won the league," Edwards told BBC WM 95.6.

"It's a similar group of lads and a lot of them haven't played Premier League football before, so they're hungry."

Edwards made 44 league appearances in the title-winning campaign, scoring three goals, and is happy to be an experienced figurehead for the team this term as Wolves search for a second successive promotion.

He said: "I've turned me, Carl Ikeme and Richard Stearman into the Karl Henrys and Jody Craddocks of this era.

"I'm enjoying coming into training every day and being the sensible head in the group who's able to be constructive all the time."

Edwards, a second-half substitute against Leeds, took his tally to eight goals for the season with Monday's winner at Molineux.

Wolves let a 3-1 lead slip and were pegged back to 3-3 before Edwards nodded in Kevin McDonald's cross.

"It was a great moment for me personally, and the way the game was going, just to get the three points was massive," said Edwards.

"I like glancing headers, you don't need to do too much with it as long as you get the contact and it's about timing and getting in front of your man."
