Paul Sturrock leaves Torquay United role after four days

Paul Sturrock has left his role as an advisor to Conference side Torquay United after just four days in the job.

The former Plymouth boss, 58, was appointed on Sunday after two years out of the game, but has left after being offered a permanent role elsewhere.

Sturrock refused to discuss who he is joining when contacted by BBC Sport.

His exit is not the quickest someone has left a role at Plainmoor - Leroy Rosenior was sacked 10 minutes after being appointed as manager in 2007.

Rosenior left shortly after the club was taken over by a new consortium.

The Torquay board still hope to try and bring in some else to support manager Chris Hargreaves.

"I am very disappointed but we wish Paul the very best of luck in his new job," said Torquay United vice-chairman Bill Phillips in a statement.

"We still believe in the principle of someone to work with Chris and to provide an additional sounding board for ideas, both tactically and in terms of recruitment. I also genuinely believe Chris endorses that view.

"Paul Sturrock fitted the bill because he lives locally but I wish him well in his new job. Events can take over the best laid plans but we have to find someone comparable with Paul.

"The principle is there and now it's finding the right person. The basis of the idea is to do everything we can to help Chris achieve great success as the manager of Torquay United."
