Burnley have signed full-back Matthew Lowton from Aston Villa on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 26-year-old's move to the Championship side is subject to paperwork.

Lowton is the Clarets' first signing following their relegation from the Premier League last season.

"He has been at a big club in Aston Villa and wants to get back to the Premier League," Burnley manager Sean Dyche said.

Lowton, who will replace Tottenham-bound right-back Kieran Trippier, struggled to command a regular first-team place at Villa Park last season.

"It's been a little frustrating lately but the manager here said I'd play a lot of football and I'm really looking forward to getting started," he said.

He made 82 appearances in three years for Villa, having signed from Sheffield United in 2012.
