Ex-Swansea goalkeeper Roger Freestone believes the arrival of Kristoffer Nordfeldt will provide good competition for Lukasz Fabianski.

Swedish international Nordfeldt, 26, has joined Swansea from Dutch club Heerenveen on a three-year deal.

Freestone was impressed with Fabianski last season but believes Nordfeldt will keep him on his toes.

"This will put a little bit more pressure on him [Fabianksi]," Freestone said.

Nordfeldt will compete with Polish international Fabianski for a first-team place following the departures of Gerhard Tremmel and David Cornell.

Fabianksi, 30, joined Swansea from Arsenal in May 2014 and established himself as number one choice following the departure of Michel Vorm to Tottenham.

Freestone, who won one cap for Wales during his 13 years at Swansea, was impressed with Fabianski's displays, but says competition is vital.

"He had a magnificent season but obviously Garry [Monk, Swansea manager] doesn't want to him to rest on his laurels and he's brought in good competition," Freestone told BBC Wales Sport.

"Being a Swedish international [Nordfeldt] he's going to be a good goalkeeper.

"It can only be good for the football club because you've got two international goalkeepers there now and they'll both want to be playing as first choice."
