Tomasz Kuszczak: Birmingham sign ex-Manchester United keeper

Kuszczak joined Manchester United in July 2007 from West Brom before spells with Watford and Brighton

Birmingham City have signed Poland goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak on a two-year contract.

The 33-year-old former Manchester United and West Bromwich Albion keeper spent the second half of last season with Wolves, covering for injured Carl Ikeme.

Kuszczak was on trial at Wolves before signing a short-term deal which was extended until the end of the season.

But he was replaced when Ikeme returned to fitness from a broken foot.

Kuszczak was brought back for Wolves' final two games but has now opted to move across the West Midlands in search of regular first-team football.

He is the second keeper signed by Birmingham in a week, following the return of ex-Blues apprentice Adam Legzdins on a two-year contract.

After missing out on defender Rob Kiernan to Scottish giants Rangers, Birmingham's first summer signing was midfielder Jacques Maghoma after his release in May by fellow Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Blues boss Gary Rowett has allowed an extra five days off before the start of pre-season training for wingers Demarai Gray and David Cotterill.

Gray was away with England Under-20s in a tournament in Toulon, while Cotterill had his 2014-15 season extended by Wales duty.
