Championship club Brighton & Hove Albion have signed Scotland Under-19 international Jack Harper from Real Madrid for an undisclosed fee.

The 19-year-old forward, who joined Real at the age of 13, has agreed a two-year deal at the Amex Stadium.

"There is no doubting his pedigree," Seagulls boss Chris Hughton said.

"He has a lot of potential, is a skilful type with a good eye for goal, and can operate as a striker or playing just off a striker."

Harper, who was born in Malaga, has progressed through the youth system at Real Madrid and featured for the Spanish club in the Uefa Youth League last season.

The teenager is currently recovering from a knee injury, which will keep him out for two months.

"We hope we can give him the platform to realise his undoubted potential," Hughton added. "Jack's next step is to move up to senior football.

"His first priority is to complete his rehabilitation and work to get his match fitness, then challenge to break through into our first-team squad."
