Garath McCleary's winner came with six minutes to play

Second-half goals from Nick Blackman and Garath McCleary saw Reading come from behind to beat Portsmouth in the League Cup second round.

Conor Chaplin gave the hosts the lead just before the break when he pounced on an error by goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi.

Chaplin kept his cool to round Al-Habsi and fire home from a tight angle.

Blackman equalised with a powerful run and low, driven shot, before McCleary poked home at the back post after Stephen Quinn found him unmarked.

Portsmouth manager Paul Cook told BBC Radio Solent:

"You're always disappointed not to win a game as a manager, especially when you're 1-0 up and getting to the latter stages.

"If you can take credit from a defeat, that was one of those games without a shadow of a doubt.

"To make the changes we did and the plusses we had from the players who came into the side was there for all to see.

"In defeat we're disappointed, but the attendance tonight speaks volumes as to what the people think of the players at the minute and that's great for everyone at the club."

Reading first team coach Kevin Keen told BBC Radio Berkshire:

"We're really pleased with the result. It keeps a nice little run going and, although perhaps we've not got the wins in the league, that's five games unbeaten and to come back from 1-0 down here with a good crowd, in a good game, it's a really good effort.

"I'm really pleased for the boys and obviously Garath coming on and scoring the winning goal really makes a difference.

"Tonight was perhaps the culmination of all our hard work in recent games and perhaps that's something we've deserved that hasn't previously come about."
