Ipswich Town have signed defender Piotr Malarczyk from Polish side Korona Kielce on a two-year contract.

They are reported to have paid around £8,500, external for the 24-year-old, whose deal has an option of an extra year.

"He's the captain of the team, he seems a really good character so I'm really glad we've got him," Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy told BBC Radio Suffolk.

Town are also set to sign Australian international Tommy Oar after he was released by Eredivisie side FC Utrecht.

The 23-year-old midfielder made more than 100 appearances for the Dutch club after joining from Brisbane Roar in 2009.

Meanwhile, McCarthy has confirmed that centre-back Christophe Berra will miss about four weeks with a hamstring injury.
