Warrenpoint Town 0-2 Dungannon Swifts

Dungannon Swifts beat Warrenpoint Town in the Premiership basement battle as the Milltown club dropped to the bottom of the table.

The opening quarter hour was scrappy but Dungannon took the lead on 15 minutes as Andrew Mitchell netted after John Boyle gave the ball away.

After Daniel Hughes missed a chance to level for Warrenpoint, Ryan Harpur doubled Dungannon's lead on 33 minutes.

Both teams had a couple of second-half chances but the scoreline remained 2-0.

Stephen Hughes missed Warrenpoint's two best second-period opportunities but Mitchell and Harpur also came close to extending Dungannon's lead.

Earlier, Boyle had gifted possession to Mitchell for Dungannon's opening strike while Terry Fitzpatrick's run and unselfish pass set up Harpur to notch the second Swifts goal.

With previously bottom club Ballymena United hammering Cliftonville 6-1, the Swifts move up from 11th to 10th spot with Warrenpoint now propping up the table, just behind Ballinamallard on goal difference.
