Peterborough United 2-0 Luton Town

  • Published

Peterborough comfortably saw off Luton to reach the FA Cup third round despite spurning several opportunities.

Conor Washington opened the scoring with his 10th goal of the season when he cut inside on the left and produced a rising finish from a narrow angle.

Hatters goalkeeper Mark Tyler - who made 486 appearances for Posh - was forced into making several fine saves.

Luton's Craig Mackail-Smith hit the post, but substitute Marcus Maddison's low drive sealed the home side's win.

Peterborough boss Graham Westley told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire:

"We could have done some real damage, we crafted a lot of chances and on a different day, that could have turned into a big score.

"Credit to them, they were resilient, dogged, they stuck to the task and made it difficult for us.

"The boys had to be patient and work the ball very well to create the chances that we did create.

"Thankfully in the end, Conor and Marcus, two great finishes, two great goals to win the tie."
