Scotland: England game pivotal for everybody, says Gordon Strachan

Gordon Strachan has indicated the post-match debrief following next Friday's game with England may determine whether he has a future as Scotland coach.

Starchan was asked about whether Scott Brown's return to international duty was a one-off for the match at Wembley on 11 November.

England lead the Scots' World Cup qualifying group on seven points, Strachan's team having four.

"Hopefully it's a debrief that we're all happy with," explained Strachan.

"And then, after that, we'll decide what the future is for everybody."

Strachan reiterated his stance that he was not thinking about his own situation in the aftermath of Scotland's defeat away to Slovakia last month, which followed a home draw with Lithuania and opening day win in Malta.

"If you honestly think that from that moment, maybe 24 hours after the defeat, I was thinking about myself, then you really don't know me," he said.

"All I was thinking about at that point was how do I get this group of people - the fans, the players, the backroom staff - into a major tournament? That's all I'm thinking about because I'm 59 years old and do you really think I was thinking about myself at that point?"

With Celtic's Brown available again, Strachan has more midfield options, while Swansea City left-back Stephen Kingsley is called up following injuries to Hull City's Andrew Robertson and Celtic's Kieran Tierney.

"At the moment, we'll have a stronger midfield and that's a bonus for us because we'll need to be strong there, because we're going to play against a strong side," added Strachan.

"If you look at the England side, there's energy in it, winning the ball back quickly.

"I think there were six or seven Liverpool and Spurs guys playing the last time [England played] and they've brought what [Liverpool manager Jurgen] Klopp and [Tottenham manager Mauricio] Pochettino brought to them to the England side, plus the great players they've already got there, so they're a formidable foe.

"We need all the best players we can get.

"It excites me, it excites the players. I know that for a fact. There's an edge to this one, which we all enjoy.

"We are in a place now where we are looking forward to that.

"We're looking forward to getting some points on the board again."
