Midfielder Leroy Fer says Swansea City need to 'stick together' after the fans showed their frustration during their 3-1 defeat by Manchester United.

The Swans' loss included the home fans at the Liberty Stadium directing chants at board members and the US owners.

Supporters chanted "we want our club back" in reference to the Swans' American takeover in the summer and the subsequent results on the pitch.

"We have to pull together, that is what I think," Fer told BBC Wales Sport.

"The fans' views to the owners? I don't know. But if you don't get the points, like on Sunday, I think it is normal for the fans to show a reaction.

"But I hope they stick to us and keep us going. We have to pull together.

"If you play well and try in every game, the fans will be behind you because they see it."

Fer felt the Swans paid the price for a poor first half performance.

"The damage was done in the first half, 3-0 down," he said.

"The gaffer gave a good speech at half time, we tried to win the second half and show the supporters we want to fight, because in the first half we didn't do that.

"In the second half we tried to get the crowd going a little bit, we got to 3-1 and hoped to get something more."

Fer, who has been relegated from the Premier League with Norwich and QPR, says the players know they are in a relegation battle.

"We are in the bottom three so we have to fight," he said.

"We have to work on that in the next couple of weeks. The next couple of weeks will be vital for us.

"We have to improve and get the points."
