Gylfi Sigurdsson: Swansea City confident of keeping midfielder

Swansea boss Bob Bradley says Gylfi Sigurdsson will stay with the club beyond the January transfer window.

Sigurdsson, 27, is the Swans' joint top scorer this season with six goals and signed a four-year contract in August.

With Swansea in the Premier League relegation zone and Everton linked with a £25m bid for him in the summer, Sigurdsson's future has been the subject of speculation.

"We're confident he is going to be part of our team," said Bradley.

"Gylfi's been terrific for us and I'm sure there are many clubs taking notice, but from our standpoint we consider him important as we move forward.

"We are confident that he's still going to be a part of our team in the second part of the season and beyond because, for us to improve week to week and have a longer-term vision of how we can move forward, a player like Gylfi is a vital part of our vision."

Sigurdsson scored one goal and created another as Swansea beat Sunderland 3-0 on Saturday to climb off the bottom of the Premier League table.

The Iceland international has now had a hand in 47% of Swansea's league goals in 2016, with 14 goals and seven assists - 21 out of the team's 45.

While keeping Sigurdsson is a priority, Bradley also confirmed Swansea's interest in re-signing former midfielder Tom Carroll from Tottenham.

Carroll, 24, spent the 2014-15 season on loan with the Swans and has started only two cup games and made one brief substitute appearance in the league for Spurs in this campaign.

"Tom is a player who everyone here knows. He's been around in the past, he's certainly a good footballer and he's a player who has been discussed," added Bradley.

"Every player that appears on the table also then gets looked at in comparison to with other players. What Tom brings as a footballer is he is technically sharp, a good passer, and those are qualities a team can use.

"We just have to look at how those attributes compare with other players who pop up."

Meanwhile, Swansea will still be without defender Federico Fernandez and midfielder Ki Sung-yueng for Wednesday's Premier League trip to West Brom because both players have a broken toe.
