Inverness Caley's Connor Bell thought he had broken the deadlock, but his early effort was ruled offside

Livingston missed the chance to move top of the Championship as they were held to a goal-less draw by Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

The Highlanders had the ball in the back of the net early on, but Connor Bell's close-range effort was ruled out for being off-side.

Jake Mulraney later spurned a good chance by shooting straight at Livi goalkeeper Neil Alexander.

The hosts' best opportunity came when Jackson Longridge curled inches wide.

Before the season started, few would have predicted such a lofty league position for Livingston, so despite disappointment at not taking full advantage of St Mirren's defeat, David Hopkin's men are still faring well.

Caley Thistle, too, are steady, with the draw extending their unbeaten run to six matches.

Bell was one of a few bright sparks in this game and was denied again late on when Alexander touched his low effort round the post after the Englishman had been played in by Liam Polworth.

Post-match reaction

Livingston manager David Hopkin: "Inverness have really picked up defensively and Neil Alexander's pulled off a couple of great saves to keep us in it as well.

"Before the game I'd have taken a point. We were playing against an experienced and well-drilled side.

"Today was a battle but my players stood up to the test."

Inverness manager John Robertson: "That's six clean sheets and something the players should be immensely proud of because they're working their socks off.

"We had to match a really honest, intense, direct Livingston team and we managed to create a few opportunities.

"Somehow Neil Alexander managed to get a toe to Connor Bell's shot and unluckily for us it's gone the wrong side of the post."
