Barnet 0-1 Colchester United

Barnet slipped into the League Two relegation zone after Sammie Szmodics' superb late goal gave Colchester victory.

The deadlock was broken in the 84th minute by a piece of magic by Szmodics from 25 yards out.

The match got off to a lively start with Ryan Jackson testing Jamie Stephens in the home goal while at the other end, Sam Walker had to be alert to save Ryan Watson's 25-yard free-kick.

Just before the half-hour mark, Colchester's Ryan Inniss put in a great block to deflect Mauro Vilhete's goalbound effort.

In the second half, Barnet's Simeon Akinola drove into a good position inside the area but dragged his shot wide of the post.

Jack Taylor then made a goal-line clearance from Inniss' header and just moments after coming onto the pitch, Szmodics forced Stephens into a low save.

With the game heading towards a draw, Szmodics' brilliant curling strike gave the away side all three points.
