Manchester City midfielder David Silva has extended his contract by a year, keeping him at the club until 2020.

The 31-year-old Spaniard joined the Blues from Valencia for £24m in 2010.

Silva has won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and two League Cups during his time with City.

Pep Guardiola's side are eight points clear at the top of the league after a run of 12 consecutive wins, the latest victory coming in stoppage time against Southampton on Wednesday.

Silva, who has eight assists - the most of any player in the top flight this season, said he is looking forward to adding to his titles.

"I am incredibly proud of what I have achieved at City in my seven and a half seasons here and with Pep in charge, I feel we are in a great position to win trophies this season and beyond," he said.

"The style of football we are playing is a pleasure to be a part of and I look forward to winning more titles in the years to come."

Silva has made 324 appearances in all competitions for City, scoring 52 goals. This season he has found the net once in 18 games.

Since making his City debut in a goalless draw with Tottenham in August 2010, Silva has created 640 chances in the Premier League, putting him well clear of Everton full-back Leighton Baines.

He has set up 72 goals, with his 15 assists in 2011-12 making that his most creative season.

Silva is on course to better that this season, having created eight goals in 14 matches.

City boast the top three players for assists in the league this season - Silva, Kevin de Bruyne (seven) and Leroy Sane (six).

Former Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs remains well clear in the Premier League's all-time assist table, 90 ahead of Silva on 162.
