Truro City missed out on the chance to move up to second place in National League South after a 3-1 loss at Oxford City on Tuesday night.

Matthew Paterson scored a hat-trick for the home side - who had been narrowly knocked out of the FA Cup by League Two side Notts County on Saturday.

He got his first after 18 minutes and second just after the hour mark.

Andrew Neal pulled one back for City two minutes later, but Paterson sealed the win with a last-minute goal.

The loss means Truro stay in fourth place in the sixth tier, while Oxford rise two places to 17th and are now three points clear of the relegation places.
