Morecambe 2-2 Northampton Town

  • Published

Morecambe staged a superb second-half performance to come from two goals down and pick up a battling point in a 2-2 draw with Northampton.

The visitors took a two-goal lead into half-time thanks to a brace from Jordan Turnbull, but they saw Adam Buxton and Kevin Ellison wipe out their advantage after the break.

Midfielder Turnbull gave his side the lead in the 21st minute. Nicky Adams swung over a left-wing corner and Turnbull got away from his marker to direct a header downwards and beyond Barry Roche.

Turnbull added his second seven minutes from the break, curling a long-range effort into the bottom right-hand corner of the Morecambe goal.

Andy Williams went close to making it 3-0 in injury time, when Adams again provided the cross for the striker to loop a header onto the top of the Morecambe crossbar with Roche beaten.

Adams then hit the woodwork himself with a delightful curler from the edge of the box before the home side responded.

Buxton pulled one back with a 25-yard shot that beat David Cornell through a crowd of bodies, and Jim Bentley's side levelled in the third minute of stoppage time, stroking the ball home from close range after a goalmouth scramble.

With 10 minutes added on because of an injury to an assistant referee, both sides had chances to win it, with Sam Hoskins hitting the crossbar for Northampton and Shaun Miller shooting inches wide for the home side.
