Alloa Athletic 1-0 Dundee United: Leaders shocked by hosts

Alloa Athletic's tremendous performance and Kevin O'Hara's goal were enough to shock table-toppers Dundee United.

O'Hara finished from six yards after an excellent, incisive passing move involving Scott Taggart and Kevin Cawley.

Wasps' Flannigan, who was sent off late on, had a great chance to add to the lead but his shot was blocked.

Scotland call-up Lawrence Shankland's best opportunity was a glanced header past the post in the second half.

That was during a period of sustained pressure from United, but Alloa's resolve was brilliant and the hosts nearly scored again through Cawley.

There was also a nervy moment for visiting goalkeeper Ben Siegrist as he nearly allowed Mark Reynolds' back-pass to roll in.

Flannighan's dismissal was for two yellows, but he was another star performer, with the part-time side's work rate drawing many plaudits.

Alloa Athletic manager Peter Grant: "I thought it was thoroughly deserved. We don't make it easy for anyone. This is our home and we've got to make it a fortress.

"To come up against the guys that are probably going to win the league, I'm actually disappointed we didn't win by more."

Dundee United head coach Robbie Neilson: "We just didn't compete the way we should. The biggest disappointment for me is we didn't really show any aggression in the game.

"They bullied us in midfield and if we're going to win titles we've got to dominate the midfield."
