Hibernian's early exit from the Scottish League Cup has been confirmed following a points deduction for fielding suspended Rocky Bushiri.

Defender Bushiri played in Wednesday's draw with Morton, despite being booked in the two previous group games.

The SPFL has awarded the Greenock side a 3-0 win, which leaves Hibs with a final tally of six points.

Falkirk are on seven with a game to come, while Morton move on to four, along with Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic.

League 1 Falkirk will hold on to top spot in Group D as long as they avoid defeat at home to Clyde on Saturday, while Hibs will fall to third if there is a winner in the Morton v Bonnyrigg Rose match.

In any case Hibs' six points will not be enough for one of the three best runners-up spots in the last 16, which will also be made up of the eight group winners and Scotland's five European representatives.

Stranraer have lost the only point they had from four outings as they also fielded an ineligible player, Paul Woods, in Tuesday's 2-2 Group H draw with League 2 rivals Forfar Athletic.

The League 2 side have been fined £1,000, of which £500 is suspended until 30 June 2023 pending any further breaches of player regulations, while Hibs were fined £5,000, with £4,000 suspended.

Hibs issued an apology to supporters, Morton, and to the SPFL for the rule breach, saying the "administrative error has been investigated internally" and "additional steps have been added to ensure this doesn't happen again".
