Dundee missed the chance to go top of the Scottish Championship after falling to defeat away to Greenock Morton.

Jack Baird's early looping header was enough to win the points, although the hosts had the best of the game at Cappielow.

With leaders Queen's Park held by Raith Rovers, victory would have taken the Dens Park side top.

Instead, they now sit two points adrift, albeit with a game in hand, while Morton stay fourth.

Lyall Cameron had Dundee's best chance but conspired to somehow miss when the ball rebounded to him a yard or so out.

A dogged Morton struck the bar after the break, while they also had an effort hacked clear off the line early on.
