New Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl says he knew how big a job he faced at the Championship strugglers.
The 34-year-old replaced Xisco Munoz earlier this month after the Spaniard won just two points in 10 games.
Rohl has overseen defeats at Watford and Plymouth in his first two matches to leave his new side 11 points adrift.
"We know it will be a tough race until the end of the season but I think the guys are ready for this," he told BBC Radio Sheffield.
"For me it was clear when I took the job it would be tough.
"I can see a direction for how we want to play, it's not about 45 minutes or 60 minutes, it's about 96 minutes."
Wednesday's total of three points from their first 13 Championship matches is the lowest in the second tier since Crystal Palace also drew three and lost 10 of their first 13 games in 1974-75.
The record for most games without a win at the start of a second-tier season was set by Rotherham in 2004-05 when they failed to win any of their first 20 matches.
The Owls host the Millers, who are six points above them but still five points adrift of safety, on Sunday and when asked if he believes his side can realistically still hope to compete to stay in the division the German said "why not?".
"There are still 99 points to get and we can do this but we have to start taking points and we have the next opportunity on Sunday," the former Southampton and Bayern Munich assistant said.
"It's about the next opponent and at home we will have unbelievable support. We'll do everything we can to get the first win."
To do that they will need to end a run of six games without scoring, having last found the net in a 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough on 19 September.
Their tally of five goals is the second lowest in the entire Football League, only one ahead of League One's bottom side Cheltenham who broke the EFL record for most games without scoring at the start of a campaign.
