    And breathe...

That was quite a day with upsets, hat-tricks, red cards, a nine-goal thriller at Macclesfield and a gripping penalty shootout drama to close.

Congratulations to Boreham Wood, Cheltenham, Oldham, Carlisle, Chelmsford, Gateshead, Salford City, Slough Town, Chesterfield, Weston-super-Mare and Brackley Town who have beaten opposition from a higher division.

A special commendation to Hemel Hempstead Town from National League South who took League One former FA Cup winners Wigan to a penalty shootout.

The day's action saw 34 teams book their place in the velvet bag for the second round draw and there will be another five to join them on Sunday and Monday.

We will be covering it all here starting tomorrow so make sure you return for more live drama when our coverage resumes.

  2. Brackley ride luck into the second roundpublished at 20:36 GMT 1 November

AET: Brackley 2-2 Notts County (Brackley win 4-3 on pens)

Brackley Town have ridden their luck for all they will think they did not have much on the night. After going behind to Alassana Jatta's headed opener, they levelled through Matt Lowe then had a goal disallowed in dubious circumstances.

You could argue they had more bad luck when Notts County regained the lead from the penalty spot after Jonny Maxted was adjudged to have felled Conor Grant.

Notts County went ahead again from the resulting spot-kick and the fates left it late to level things up in the dying seconds of injury time with a lifeline – Callum Stewart holding his nerve from the spot after Ollie Norburn handled.

Brackley Town held their nerve collectively from the spot after extra time failed to split the two sides, Maxted saving from Keanan Bennetts and Zak Brown sealing a second round place with the final kick.

Brackley boss Gavin Cowan told BBC Two:

"I thought we came out a bit slow in the second half but we were happy to let them have the ball in areas.

"We really went for it tonight. The celebrations will be reserved because we've got a game on Wednesday, but I'm just so pleased for the fans and everyone attached to the club."

It's a devastating blow for Notts County.

I think Brackley full deserve to get to the second round.

They didn't hold their nerve, the manager and the players will be dejected.
