Bradford City's victory against Derby County ended a run of four games without a win

League One high-fliers Derby County and Oxford United were knocked out of the Bristol Street Motors Trophy by League Two sides on a night of last-16 upsets.

Derby lost 1-0 at home to Bradford City while Oxford fell 2-0 at AFC Wimbledon.

Brighton are the only Premier League academy side left in the competition as their under-21s reached the quarter-finals by beating Reading on penalties.

Wycombe Wanderers beat West Ham's under-21s 2-1 as new signing Richard Kone scored on his Chairboys debut.

The 20-year-old has been on trial with Wycombe for several months and officially signed from non-league side Athletic Newham on New Year's Day as one of the first transfers of the January window.

He took just 33 minutes to make an impact, doubling the hosts' lead by pouncing on a defensive error to coolly slot home after Lewis Orford's early own goal had handed Wycombe the advantage.

West Ham's Gideon Kodua pulled one back in the second half and almost forced penalties at the end but his acrobatic injury-time effort was cleared off the line by Josh Scowen.

Reading, without boss Ruben Selles after he failed to observe a touchline ban, came closest to breaking the deadlock in a 0-0 draw with Brighton but Tyler Bindon's header hit the post and the Royals lost the penalty shootout 3-2.

Sam Stubbs' header earned Graham Alexander's Bradford a deserved win at Derby in a game that saw the sides make a combined 13 changes from their weekend league line-ups.

And AFC Wimbledon's James Tilley ended a two-month goal drought with both goals in the Dons' win over Oxford, who ended the game with 10 men and defender Oisin Smyth in goal after keeper Simon Eastwood's late red card for fouling Harry Pell.

Four last-16 ties remain to be played during the next seven days.

Holders Bolton Wanderers visit Accrington Stanley on Wednesday (19:30 GMT), with Blackpool hosting Burton Albion (19:00) and Peterborough United welcoming Crawley Town (19:30) on the same night.

The quarter-final line-up will be finalised after Doncaster Rovers entertain Wigan Athletic on Tuesday 16 January (19:00).
