Andy Halliday ends a three-and-a-half year spell at Hearts to join Motherwell

Andy Halliday has left Hearts to join Motherwell, with manager Stuart Kettlewell saying the midfielder chose the Fir Park club over other interest.

The 32-year-old arrives on an initial six-month loan that will become a permanent deal in the summer.

He moved to Hearts in 2020 after five years at Ibrox and went on to make 109 appearances for the Edinburgh side.

"It's a good feeling to be here," said Halliday, who could face Alloa Athletic in the Scottish Cup on Saturday.

And Kettlewell said of his new number 11: "I'm delighted we have been able to get Andy on board. There was other clubs interested in Andy, so the fact he has come here says a lot for me.

"To get a player with the ability, experience and versatility that Andy possesses is a huge positive for us. It will give everyone a boost going into our next match."

Recent action has been limited for Halliday, who has played just six games this term without making a start, prompting the switch to fellow Scottish Premiership club Motherwell.

Halliday, who can also play at left-back, becomes Motherwell's second January recruit following the loan signing of Celtic defender Adam Montgomery.

The Livingston youth product will provide another midfield option for Kettlewell, who have lost Callum Slattery to a season-ending knee injury, while loan striker Mika Biereth was this week recalled by Arsenal.
