Preston North End and Hull City played out a goalless draw at Deepdale in the Championship.
After a first period high on effort but low on clear-cut chances, Ben Whiteman almost put Preston ahead two minutes after the restart when his shot deflected wide.
Preston had a penalty appeal turned down after Will Keane felt he was pulled down in the box after Emil Riis had had a shot saved by Ryan Allsop.
Jaden Philogene and Ryan Giles had shots saved for Hull, while Whiteman, Ali McCann and Liam Millar went close for Preston.
Hull remain in sixth place in the table, three points clear of eighth-placed North End.
Fabio Carlvalho stung the palms of Preston's Freddie Woodman with a long-range effort inside the opening 20 minutes and Ben Whiteman had an chance for Preston.
Anass Zaroury's shot from the edge of the Preston box was deflected wide for a corner three minutes from the break, while Jordan Storey spurned the hosts' best first-half chance when he powered a back-post header off the Hull bar from a corner soon after.
Mads Frokjaer intercepted a Ryan Allsop pass deep in Hull territory and slipped in Whiteman just after the break, but the Preston midfielder's strike deflected just the wrong side of the post.
The hosts felt they should have had a spot-kick when it looked like Jacob Greaves had pulled down Keane in the box, but play was waved on as Lewie Coyle flashed a long-range effort past the post for Hull soon after.
Philogene saw Woodman do well to save a low curling effort midway through the second period, and six minutes later Duane Holes saw a shot saved for Preston.
Greaves blocked McCann's volley from inside the box with 18 minutes left, while Millar brought a good save from Allsop eight minutes later, and Giles' long-range shot for Hull in the final minute went wide.
Preston North End manager Ryan Lowe:
"I thought we deserved a penalty. A decision has gone against us that has probably not seen us take all three points. Unfortunately for us it hasn't been given, but it's a penalty.
"Will Keane has been pulled back, but maybe the referee is used to reffing in the Premier League. He's used to someone speaking in his ear, stop and then decide what to do.
"I don't know, but the fact of the matter is that 11 decisions have gone against us this season and three for us.
"It's become a little bit of a concern, because if it goes into 14-15, then it's costing us points."
Hull City head coach Liam Rosenior told BBC Radio Humberside:
"A hard-fought, physical, winter battle. I'm delighted with the players' attitude.
"I felt if we'd have had a little bit more calmness in our play, which is hard to do when you come away from home against a team that play in a way that is really difficult to play against to get rhythm in the game, if we'd have taken advantage of the moments that we had in the opposition's half, then we could have come away with a win.
"But the players have given me everything. I keep saying about us improving, I think that's a game we could have possibly lost earlier in the season.
"I'm disappointed not to win the game, but I'm really pleased with the application of the players."
