QPR's stunning win at the Foxes was gave them a third straight win and moved them up to 19th but they, along with Town and Birmingham, who lost a cracker 4-3 at home to Southampton, are only above the bottom three on goal difference.

Ipswich returned to the Championship's automatic promotion places for the first time in a month with a 2-0 win away at Plymouth.

Victory moves the Tractor Boys above Leeds into second and within three points of leaders Leicester.

Town manager Kieran McKenna told BBC Radio Suffolk he was happy with a "good, solid performance".

He added: "The conditions weren't easy, it was wet, the pitch was very heavy, but I thought we were mostly in control of the game, or as much as you realistically can be in an away game.

"There were some phases where we played through the pressure pretty well and other than that we were solid off the ball and had good structure to what we did with the ball.

"We always had the belief that the moment would come our way."

  3. Maresca 'concerned' about Foxes' losing streakpublished at 18:25 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March

    FT: Leicester 1-2 QPR

Leicester's losing streak continued as they suffered a third successive loss in the Championship to see their lead slip to just three points.

Speaking to BBC Radio Leicester, Foxes boss Enzo Maresca said he was feeling "disappointed" with his team's inability to claim a result.

"It's a bad feeling, especially in this moment but it is what it is. We struggled to find a solution. At the end we shot many times and dominated the game but we lost.

"It is three games in a row where we have had incredible effort and created chances but we are not able to score goals and in this sport that is the most important thing.

"Today we created chances. Some of them were clear, some not, some were shots from outside the box. We are trying to do everything. It is incredible effort but we need to do more. We have just 11 games to go."

For Maresca, Leicester's dip in form isn't just about lost points but also the effect it has on the dressing room.

"When you don't win and drop points and the rest behind you win then the mood is not a good one. Even when we win we always try to see what is not working well," Maresca said.

"After three defeats, we are concerned. But it is a matter of balance. If you worry too much it is not good and if you relax too much, it is not too good."

  4. 'That was a Millwall atmosphere and performance' - Harrispublished at 18:23 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March

    FT: Millwall 1-0 Watford

    Neil HarrisImage source, Rex Features

Millwall made it two wins out of two under new boss Neil Harris as Zian Flemming's early free-kick was enough for three points against struggling Watford.

Harris' return has brought about a much-needed resurgence from the Lions who, despite back-to-back wins, are only one point outside the relegation zone in what is becoming a very congested battle at the bottom.

He told BBC Radio London: "I would like us to have played slightly better in my first home game back and got a second goal when [Duncan] Watmore went round the goalkeeper but ultimately we've got three points.

"That was a Millwall atmosphere, that was a Millwall performance and that was us as a football club coming together."

Harris added: "I've come back to help the club and help this group of players be a Millwall team - there's so much we need to improve on but we've got so little time.

"At the moment, the focus is on the areas we can improve quickly and to win at Southampton in the manner we did, and to win today, we've had a good start."

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl has told his players to enjoy their win against bottom side Rotherham - a victory that goes a long way to keeping the Owls' hopes of escaping relegation alive.

"It is a difficult place, Rotherham's style is difficult," Rohl told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"We did well to prepare this week, we were focussed and it was a fantastic game from my players.

"Our spirit is outstanding; I'm really proud.

"We are the hunter, at the end we need to be over the line. We've known the situation since I arrived.

"We can enjoy today, recovery on Monday and then we have two home games that will be special."

  6. Ismael laments lack of Watford confidencepublished at 18:16 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March

    FT: Millwall 1-0 Watford

Watford head coach Valerien IsmaelImage source, Getty Images

Watford head coach Valerien Ismael was left frustrated as Millwall added to the Hornets' miserable run.

Defeat by the Londoners leaves Watford with only one win in eight league games. It's a run that includes five losses.

"We conceded a deflected goal and after that, there was nothing from the opponents," Ismael told BBC Three Counties Radio.

"We were not intimidated by the atmosphere, we were under control but we didn't create that big chance to give us the feeling that we can win the game.

"For sure, (there is) a lack of confidence because of the run we've had but at least it was an improved performance.

"We need to play forwards and stop playing backwards, backwards, backwards - for sure we want to have the ball, but even when you are in difficult situations you have to take the responsibility to try something because we want to play positive football."

  7. 'No shadow of a doubt it was a deserved result' - Wagnerpublished at 18:12 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March

    FT: Norwich 1-0 Sunderland

Today's win over Sunderland marks Norwich's fifth home win in a row and sixth game unbeaten. It's the kind of form that has helped the Canaries rise to just one point shy of a play-off spot.

Norwich head coach David Wagner told BBC Norfolk that it was the calmness of his squad that aided his team to the win.

"The players did fantastic because they stayed calm - you can easily lose your head if you don't score early.

"We had some very good opportunities when we should have done better but luckily we had Josh Sargent, who has done his job."

Wagner added: "It was hard fought but from my point of view, there was not a shadow of a doubt that it was a deserved result - we had the better chances.

"The team fought for a clean sheet at the right moments as well so I am very proud about what the players have done in terms of the commitment, attitude and fighting spirit."

  8. 'We looked tense and nervous' - Doddspublished at 18:08 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March

    FT: Norwich 1-0 Sunderland

Sunderland's loss away at Norwich City was their fourth consecutive defeat and saw them move further from the Championship play off places.

Speaking to BBC Radio Newcastle, the Sunderland interim boss Mike Dodds said: "If I'm being brutally honest, there's still a lot of things we need to be better with."

His side welcome league leaders Leicester to the Stadium Of Light on Tuesday, and then head to Southampton.

Dodds acknowledged the tough upcoming fixtures: "We've got some really good opposition coming up this week so we can't dwell on [the loss] too much.

"We can spin positives and we can spin negatives but when you lose a game in the manner we lost, it's a really tough one to take.

"We got into some good areas of the pitch and worked our shape really well. but when we got into those areas I felt we looked a bit tense, a bit nervous, for whatever reason."

  9. Boro 'have to dig deep' to arrest slide - Carrickpublished at 18:05 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March

    FT: Stoke 2-0 Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Stoke as goals in either half from Bae Junho and Lewis Baker helped the Potters to a much-needed victory.

A fourth loss in five games sees Boro slip 12 points outside the play-off places

Manager Michael Carrick told BBC Radio Tees his side are desperate to get back to winning ways.

He said: "The first half was pretty decent, we started well and created chances. We had a good spell before they scored; their goal came a little from nowhere.

"Second half, I'm disappointed we didn't chase it well. We can be better at that. We are all desperate for points; the decision-making didn't give us enough chance to create things.

"Going behind makes things harder. We didn't get the result we wanted. We've got to dig deep, dust ourselves down and go again."

Stoke boss Steven Schumacher gives a thumbs upImage source, Getty Images

Stoke City manager Steven Schumacher was full of praise for his players and Potters supporters after the 2-0 win against Middlesbrough.

Victory does not move them out of the bottom three, but they are equal on points with the sides outside the drop zone above them.

"I felt we played really well; it is a performance we needed after a tough run," Schumacher told BBC Radio Stoke.

"Everything we asked for, we got. The crowd were outstanding.

"First goals are huge in the Championship and we have to thank our goalkeeper for that.

"Daniel [Iversen] made a huge save at 0-0. If that had gone in, the atmosphere would have changed and Middlesbrough would have had the confidence."

  11. Rosenior content with battling point for Tigerspublished at 17:58 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March

Hull City boss Liam RoseniorImage source, Rex Features

Hull City head coach Liam Rosenior had mixed emotions after his side's draw at Preston.

The sixth-placed Tigers were looking for a fifth successive win away from home but had to settle for a point against eighth-placed North End.

"A hard-fought, physical, winter battle. I'm delighted with the players' attitude," he told BBC Radio Humberside.

"I felt if we'd have had a little bit more calmness in our play, which is hard to do when you come away from home against a team that play in a way that is really difficult to play against to get rhythm in the game, if we'd have taken advantage of the moments that we had in the opposition's half then we could have come away with a win.

"But the players have given me everything. I keep saying about us improving, I think that's a game we could have possibly lost earlier in the season.

"I'm disappointed not to win the game, but I'm really pleased with the application of the players."

  12. Headline Championship stats of the daypublished at 17:55 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March

After a day like this, there is just so much to try unpack.

The team at Opta have pulled together a list of facts that helps sum things up:

    • Leicester have lost three game in the Championship for the first time since April 2013. They have conceded at least twice in each of those losses.
    • QPR’s Ilias Chair has now either scored (twice) or assisted (once) in each of his past three Championship games. Chair has both scored (five) and assisted (six) more goals than any other QPR player in the league this season.
    • Kieffer Moore has registered six direct goal involvements in seven Championship matches since joining Ipswich Town (five goals, one assist). That is already two more than he did in his one full Premier League season with Bournemouth (four goals).
    • Swansea City halted a run of four straight home defeats, their longest in the EFL since 1991, by defeating Blackburn Rovers 2-1. And in doing so, they have recorded their first ever league double against Blackburn.
    • Leeds United, who drew 1-1 with Huddersfield, dropped their first league points of 2024 having won their first nine matches of the calendar year. Leeds are now unbeaten in their past four EFL matches against Huddersfield (W3 D1) after losing three in a row against them previously.

  14. 'We are in a bad run' admits Manningpublished at 17:46 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March

    FT: Bristol City 0-1 Cardiff

    Liam ManningImage source, Rex Features

Bristol City's defeat was their third in a row and fourth in their past six Championship matches.

When the Robins beat Southampton last month they looked to be going for a real play-off push but defeats to QPR, Sheffield Wednesday and now Cardiff, leaves them in the bottom half and with a mountain to climb to get back in the promotion mix.

Head coach Liam Manning said his team had to turn things around quickly.

"I didn't think overall in the game there was a huge amount of quality which is something that's not new to us. We have been speaking about it too much.

"We weren't good enough in the attacking third so for me, make sure you don't then concede - finish the game 0-0," he said.

Manning added: "The last five minutes we actually played with a bit of purpose but we are putting crosses in the box and there's no-one in there.

"We are in a bad run. It's then a case of how do you bounce back? We have to step up on Tuesday, have more leaders and people who are willing to take responsibility in these moments."

  15. 'We will push for many more wins' - Bulutpublished at 17:40 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March

In the other of today's two early kick-offs, Cardiff beat Bristol City 1-0 in the Severnside derby, thanks to a second-half header from Perry Ng.

It means the Bluebirds have done the double over their rivals this season and recorded back-to-back Championship wins for the first time since October.

Manager Erol Bulut was pleased with the win which sees his side move up from 14th to 11th, leapfrogging Bristol City in the process.

"We started good and we finished good. A goal from a set-piece again - I know we are one of the best teams from a set-piece.

"It was a game where whoever scored the first goal would win," he said.

Bulut added: "We had some really bad moments [this season]. We had lost many games in a row. But we never stopped staying together.

"Together we can make great things, as we saw today and in the last game. I think we will push for many more wins."

  16. Unnecessary red card cost fantastic Town - Breitenreiterpublished at 17:37 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March

    FT: Huddersfield 1-1 Leeds

Huddersfield boss Andre Breitenreiter applauds the fans after his side's draw with LeedsImage source, PA Media

Huddersfield head coach Andre Breitenreiter praised his side's efforts with 10 men against promotion-chasing Leeds.

The Terriers had skipper Jonathan Hogg sent off before the break for two yellow cards shortly after they took the lead and battled hard to take a point.

"The boys did a fantastic job today to play over 60 minutes with a player less," the German said.

"It's very hard against Leeds with their quality. They did a really fantastic job. They showed hard work, hard fight and good discipline in defending.

"Until the 45th minute we made it hard for them, we pressed high and went into the lead with a set-piece.

"But the red card was unnecessary. It's a derby and we spoke before the game about keeping clear heads, but derbies are full of emotion.

"He (Hogg) knows about his mistake. He apologised. As a leader he's fantastic, but next time please not again.

"The players were fantastic and can be proud of their performance. We can be happy with this point and thank the players for their performance."

  17. Leeds not at their best - Farkepublished at 17:34 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March

    FT: Huddersfield 1-1 Leeds

Leeds boss Daniel FarkeImage source, PA Media

Leeds manager Daniel Farke said his side "have to accept the point" after their bid to record a club-record 10th-straight league win was halted by 10-man Huddersfield.

Michal Helik gave the hosts the lead before Jonathan Hogg was sent off before the break and Patrick Bamford levelled for Leeds, who drop to third, after the interval.

"I'm far away from punishing my players for their performance. We have won 28 points out of the last 10 games, so I won't criticise them because they didn't have their best game," he said.

"Individually they didn't have their best day. But you have to expect that sometimes. We have to draw a line under that pretty quickly. It's difficult when a team defends and that's all they do.

"It was a quick turnaround for us and the pitch was not easy to play. We created chances, we got the equaliser, but it was a bit like a cup game with how scrappy it was.

"We had to rely on the offensive players to put the ball into the net. We should have won, Summerville hit the post. But we have to accept the point."

It is looking grim for Rotherham at the bottom of the table.

Defeat by second-from-bottom Sheffield Wednesday leaves them 16 points adrift.

As for the battle to avoid the drop, well, that is just a battle royale right now.

Wednesday are three points from safety, with four teams now level on 38 points.

Stoke, who are in the drop zone, are among them after beating Middlesbrough, and Huddersfield's unlikely point against Leeds has them just outside the bottom three.

QPR's staggering win against Leicester has them 19th in the table, while Millwall are a point and place better off after they beat Watford.

Meanwhile, Blackburn are level on points with the Lions after they were beaten at Swansea.
