Truro City manager John Askey says conceding a last-minute equaliser to nine-man Aldershot Town was "criminal" from his side.

James Henry's penalty in the seventh minute of stoppage time salvaged a 2-2 National League draw for the Shots on Wednesday.

The visitors had goalkeeper Marcus Dewhurst sent off shortly before half-time while Cameron Hargreaves received a second booking in the second minute of additional time.

"We've got ourselves ahead, and then to concede with seconds to go is criminal from our point of view," Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall.

"I know there was a clear penalty on Dom [Johnson-Fisher] that the referee should have given but, even with that, there's no way they should get a chance with two minutes to go.

"I'm disappointed, the players are disappointed, everybody's disappointed, but we can't do anything about it - all we can do is take something from the fact that, again, we performed well."

The draw was a fourth point in two games for the Cornish side, who had lost their first five matches after winning promotion to the fifth tier for the first time.

Goals from Ryan Law and Tyler Harvey had given Truro the lead with five minutes to go before the late drama.

And Askey says he was surprised at some of the refereeing calls - including the failure to give a spot-kick for a challenge on Truro substitute Johnson-Fisher in the box shortly before Aldershot were awarded a controversial penalty at the other end.

"I think there were just bizarre decisions, some fouls that were given that I didn't think were fouls, Aldershot didn't think certain things were fouls," Askey added.

"Obviously the penalty, Aldershot have said it's a clear penalty for us, but it's sad when you're talking about the referee, you don't want to do that.

"But I'm more disappointed in the way that we've conceded that second goal."
