Shrewsbury sign former Wycombe midfielder Wheeler

Shrewsbury Town have signed former Wycombe Wanderers midfielder David Wheeler until the end of the season.

The 34-year-old is reunited with head coach Gareth Ainsworth at Shrewsbury, having previously played for him at Wycombe.

Wheeler was released by the League One high flyers earlier in the month after five-and-a-half years at Adams Park.

He joins a Shrewsbury side that are second from bottom in the table and four points from safety.

"There was quite a bit of a gap (in the table) not that long ago but we are in a position now where there is every chance we can stay up," Wheeler told the club website.

"I want to be a part of that and I'm very confident we can do it."
