Truro City boss John Askey says he is ready for a "rollercoaster" season after his side's debut in the National League.

The National League South champions were beaten 2-0 at Wealdstone on Saturday in the first-ever game in the fifth tier of English football for a club from Cornwall.

"Obviously we're all disappointed, we've been used to winning every week, so when you lose it hurts you," Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall.

"But we lost our first game last season, we learned from that, so hopefully that'll be case the next game that we play.

"It's going to be a bit of a rollercoaster, but we've got to try to enjoy it and hopefully pick up one or two good results to give us confidence."

Truro's next league game is their first home match of the season against Askey's former side York City.

The Minstermen make the 782-mile round trip - the fourth longest journey to Truro in the league this season - on Saturday to the expanded Truro Community Stadium.

Askey says it is vital that his side use their geographical isolation to their advantage.

"Our home form is going to be crucial if we want to survive next season," he said.

"The atmosphere that the supporters can give and them getting behind us each week is going to be crucial.

"That's why it's exciting to be in the National League, having teams like York turning up, who will bring a decent support with them.

"Hopefully we can put in another good performance, but obviously we're looking to get a win."
