New Huddersfield defender Sean Roughan says he is relishing the chance to impress at the back after joining from Lincoln City.

Roughan, 21, signed a three-year deal at the John Smith's Stadium after leaving the Imps this summer.

Despite being versatile enough to play as a centre-back, full-back and wing-back, Roughan believes he is best in a defensive role.

"I'm hard-working first of all, I want to get forward but defend first and foremost - I love defending," he told BBC Radio Leeds.

"I like to join attacks rather than being the attack. Wing-back isn't my best position, I prefer left-back and centre back.

"Wherever I am, I'm happy. You can't take playing for granted; once I'm on the pitch, I'll take it in my stride."

Having made his Lincoln debut in 2020, Roughan admits it was "tough" to leave but is excited by the new challenge.

"I thought it was the best time to move on - I had two good full seasons [in the first team], it was tough to leave but I thought the move was for me," he added.
