Boston United have signed Matty Carson after the defender left League Two club Grimsby Town.

Carson, 22, made 13 appearances in all competitions for the Mariners last season and had loan spells at Alfreton Town and Radcliffe.

The Chester-born left-back was part of Liverpool's academy before becoming a professional at Burnley and made his senior debut in the Vertu Trophy for Accrington Stanley in October 2021.

He played 10 times in League One for Reading between August and November 2023 and joined Grimsby in June 2024, when Town boss David Artell praised Carson's "unbelievable attributes, especially in an attacking sense".

Boston have suffered a string of injuries during recent weeks and are 19th in the National League after taking one point from their past three matches.

They visit fourth-placed Southend United on Saturday (15:00 BST).
