On Alex Iwobi: "He's very good mentally. Alex is a happy boy when he's on the pitch doing what he loves. If you lose a game, you lose a game together. They [Nigeria] did brilliantly until the final."

On Rodrigo Muniz: "I'm really pleased for him. When you have the chance, you have to pop up and take that chance and Rodrigo did. Last week was his best performance in a Fulham shirt."

  3. Man City have 'made history in England'published at 14:48 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2024

Man City v Chelsea (Sat, 17:30 GMT)

    Chelsea

Final words from Mauricio Pochettino, on opponents Man City: "We are going to face a very good team, but you need to be brave and force them defend.

"It is a team that can dominate you and we need to attack, everyone needs to run to make the effort to go there together.

"Of course, the most important thing is to go there and challenge them.

"For sure, one of the best - they have made history in England.

"We are a team which have had ups-and-downs, we need to find maturity and consistency and we need to try to win.

"You can see we had one of the best performances of the season [in the 4-4 draw to Man City earlier in the season] against the second best [in the league]."

  4. 'Chelsea are not at the level to compete against Man City'published at 14:39 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2024

Man City v Chelsea (Sat, 17:30 GMT)

    Cesc Fabregas
Former Spain midfielder on the Planet Premier League podcast

If you want to get something out of a game away at Man City, you need to be brave.

At the same time, I don't think with the players Chelsea have, they can just decide to go deep and then play counter-attack because if they do that, maybe they don't even get the chance to do it.

I feel that Man City when they are in these final phases, they have very quick players.

They keep the ball. When you have players, like Enzo, Palmer, they don't like to be defending the whole game. I think they will hate it. They will get frustrated and in the end they will just be giving up.

Chelsea just need to be themselves. They are not maybe at the level to compete face-to-face against Man City at the moment, but they need to start somewhere.

I think this is a good chance, especially the last couple of results that they have had to prove their momentum and just have a go at them.

  5. 'No timelines with Cunha'published at 14:36 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2024

Tottenham v Wolves (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Wolves

Wolves boss Gary O'Neil on forward Matheus Cunha's likely comeback from injury: "Matheus has a hamstring injury. A little bit of muscle damage so he's really optimistic and feels good. Not too much pain there. He's keen to get to work, pushing to get back to help the team as soon as he can.

"We haven't set any timelines because he's feeling really good with it. So we know there is an injury there but pain wise and symptom wise it's been really good. We want to give him every opportunity as we can to keep him pushing as hard as he can. Obviously, we respect the injury, the symptoms and how it progresses. It's important we allow Matheus an opportunity to work hard and get back as soon as possible."

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino, on promoting young players at Chelsea: "Because it is part of the solution. I think they need to feel sometimes the pain of how we play.

"It is difficult to grow and mature, the most important thing is how you manage those situations.

"Then it is up to them to reach their limit to that we think they have."

On Enzo Fernandez:"I think he has the capacity to run [more] and it is improving us a lot and we can see him building from the back and then arriving at score goals.

"It is a sign he is improving a lot because at the beginning he was a more static and not covering space.

"He is a player with the capacity to play box-to-box and can score goals."

West Ham boss David Moyes on responding to their 6-0 defeat against Arsenal last weekend: "We didn't play well and we didn't perform anywhere close to the level. We were up against a formidable team and we were punished for it.

"We're all in it together, we're going to act as though it's a blip and try to bounce back tomorrow. I'm looking forward to seeing the attitude of the players and the commitment they show. What I've seen in training has been good."

On Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson: "Roy's a good friend, and a great colleague as well. I'm hearing he's fine, so I hope that's the case. He loves the game and his longevity has been incredible for football."

  8. 'Hammers can't be as lax'published at 14:21 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2024

Nottingham Forest v West Ham (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Chris SuttonImage source, BBC Sport

It's fair to say that both these teams need a victory - neither side has managed one in the league in 2024 - and this is a hard one to call.

The usual way of thinking with West Ham would be to ask if they are going to bounce back from their 6-0 home defeat by Arsenal.

I am going to say they won't. We know David Moyes' teams have been resilient in the past but I can't back anyone who has been beaten that heavily the previous week - it is not just a case of clicking your fingers and turning it around.

The Hammers surely can't be lax as they were against Arsenal, but I am going with Nottingham Forest to find a way through.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-1

  9. Paqueta out but Edson Alvarez readypublished at 14:18 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2024

Nottingham Forest v West Ham (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    West Ham United

West Ham boss David Moyes on team news: "Lucas Paqueta is not fit and available for tomorrow. He's been on the grass for a couple of days, but he's not ready yet.

"We've missed Lucas loads. We've had a few players out recently, but I can see other teams who have had similar issues and that's part of the game.

"Michail Antonio's back available. We need to see exactly how he is, but he's back in the squad training.

"Kurt Zouma is fine. The bigger issue was Edson Alvarez who came off with illness last time out, but he's recovered as well."

Wolves boss Gary O'Neil on the return of top scorer Hwang Hee-chan: "I won't confirm the starting XI because I don't do that before the team sheets are announced but Chan is completely fine.

"His calf was a bit sore last week but isn't feeling at all any more. He's done a couple of full days of training. Unless I get any surprises after this news conference like I did last week he'll be available to start or come off the bench tomorrow."

  11. Sanchez returns to Chelsea squad fully fitpublished at 14:09 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2024

Man City v Chelsea (Sat, 17:30 GMT)

    Chelsea

Chelsea Mauricio Pochettino on team news for the weekend: "Thiago [Silva] has a minor issue, but he is unavailable. After this game we asses him day-by-day."

On Levi Colwill, Robert Sanchez: "Yes they are okay and have recovered well - they are available for tomorrow."

"Sanchez was playing a lot and him being available again is a good thing for the team."

On whether Robert Sanchez will start: "You will see."

On Carney Chukwuemeka: "Chukwuemeka has twisted his ankle two days ago and he is out."

  12. 'We want to finish strongly'published at 14:05 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2024

Tottenham v Wolves (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou on targets set for the rest of the season: "I don't think you can really be specific around them. What we want to do is finish he season strongly. We started the season strongly, obviously. We had some challenges through another period which we handled not too bad. The results weren't great but our competitive level was decent during that time.

"It's about finishing the season strongly which is nod different to any other team. You can have specific targets but ultimately if you can finish the season strong, you'll be in a good position."

On Roy Hodgson's situation at Crystal Palace: "I don't think it's my place to talk about Roy, or his situation right now, or his health for that matter, because they are private matters. Everyone knows his standing he has in the game. Management is a weird occupation, and there aren't many [jobs] where people dictate or create a narrative where you are finished and also putting up your replacement while you're still in the position. That's the way the world is today. I guess we sign up for it. I don't think it will affect Roy's standing in the game in any way. Above all, hopefully he bounces back quickly."

  13. Faivre unavailablepublished at 14:03 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2024

Newcastle v Bournemouth (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola on team news: "We are in quite a good spot injury wise. We have the right back situation with Tyler [Adams]. Then the player that we are going to lose is Romain Faivre because he’s ill. He’s ill with a temperature and it’s risky if he travels. He’s the only one we didn’t expect that is not going to be involved."

  14. 'I need to be more calm and relaxed'published at 14:00 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2024

    Chelsea

Mauricio Pochettino, manager of Chelsea, argues with referee Anthony TaylorImage source, Getty Images

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino on his outburst towards referee Anthony Taylor the last time Chelsea played Man City: "I was so angry.

"It is not going to happen again, I was so upset with the referee and I went like an arrow onto the pitch for the referee - it was a big mistake.

"I need to be more calm and relaxed showing respect to the opponent and I feel really bad so I apologise again.

"I am a nice guy, but not too nice!"

  15. 'We haven’t been scoring enough'published at 13:57 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2024

Newcastle v Bournemouth (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola on his side's recent performance: "It’s difficult to say just one thing, overall, probably in the last games, West Ham, Forest, the other day against Fulham, we haven’t been scoring enough, especially the other day, I thin we missed a lot of chances. The West Ham game, we missed a lot of chances. When we were in the run of winning games, we were scoring two, three. Probably there is a part where we’ve not been clinical enough and now we have in front of us another game where we will need our best finishing and also defensively because it is a team that score a lot of goals, they have a lot of offensive danger."

  16. 'Palmer is grateful for Man City'published at 13:53 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2024

Man City v Chelsea (Sat, 17:30 GMT)

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino on Cole Palmer: "He is not the type of player that needs to prove anything, he is very grateful for Man City and he left the club as he wanted to find another challenge.

"He is playing a lot of games here and he is going to be there [on Saturday] - he will try to play for his team.

"Man City are doing really well and are one of the best teams in the world, it is not easy to find a space for a young guy."

BBC Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer has taken a trip down memory lane to visit Wallsend Boys Club on Tyneside where he - and many other famous north-east footballers - kicked off their careers.

The former Newcastle striker said the club is "magic" and he "never tires of coming back" during a visit for Football Focus.

  18. 'Going to give someone a hiding'published at 13:38 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2024

Tottenham v Wolves (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Chris SuttonImage source, BBC Sport

Wolves won the reverse of this fixture in November with two goals in stoppage time but I can see Tottenham getting their revenge here.

I was right last week with my hunch that Spurs were going to beat Brighton, although my guest - the actor Stephen Moyer - did even better and got the 2-1 scoreline spot on.

Spurs just find a way, don't they, with 'Ange-ball'? They never stop coming forward, which is why they keep scoring goals.

Son Heung-min is back from the Asian Cup and he will start this week. Tottenham will concede, even with Wolves forward Matheus Cunha out injured, but they are just relentless in attack, and they are going to give someone such a hiding soon.

    Sutton's prediction: 3-1

  19. Destiny and Porro both outpublished at 13:32 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2024

Tottenham v Wolves (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou on injuries picked up by defenders Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro: "We've had a couple of setbacks. Destiny [Udogie] picked up a knock last week, jarred his knee a bit, and he's not available for tomorrow but I don't think it's anything too serious.

"Pedro [Porro] picked up a sort of strain in training. Fair to say he'll be missing tomorrow. Probably a couple of weeks for him. With game break hopefully he doesn't miss too many. Probably the major one for us is [reserve goalkeeper] Fraser Forster who has a fracture in his foot and he will probably miss conservatively a couple of months. Coming back it's the same as last week."
