1. What might Everton get from Dibling?published at 14:05 British Summer Time 6 August

Tyler Dibling gets rave reviews when I speak to senior players and ex-players about him. They see a young English talent who has great potential and huge natural ability.

He has great balance and poise, good power and strength for his age, the ball sticks to his feet when he is dribbling, and he can win free-kicks by sucking defenders in, only to shift the ball away from them in a Jack Grealish style.

Last season was a steep learning curve for Dibling and a tough campaign for a teenager to deal with.

He was brilliant at times, but as the season faded for Southampton it also faded for Dibling as niggling injuries impacted him, as well as the vagaries of trying to play at the highest level week in, week out.

He is a quiet, thoughtful teenager who does not look for the centre stage, but his talent is good enough to demand it in the future if he keeps growing as he has.

We'll see what Southampton accept - if Dibling wants to go to Everton.

He went to Chelsea as a youngster but didn't like it and came back to Southampton. It says a lot about what is important to him.

Let's stick with Everton for a bit.

The Toffees have had a frustrating summer transfer window with regular first-team players leaving and an inability in getting deals for new signings over the line.

So much so that manager David Moyes said last week that the club are "desperate" and "running out of time" to sign new players before the start of the new season.

"The truth is we're not getting a lot of the deals over the line at the moment, that's a fact," Moyes told reporters in Chicago before his side's faced West Ham in a friendly last Wednesday.

"We're desperate to get things moving on because we know time's running out."

Moyes went on to say that he was looking to sign as many as six players before window closes shut in a few weeks' time and there have been some encouraging signs for the Toffees supporters since.

Everton are set to sign Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Chelsea while they are also in talks with Southampton for Tyler Dibling with Manchester City's Jack Grealish the latest player to be linked with the club.

"I think there'll be deals next week," Moyes had said on Monday.

"I think we're getting much closer. But I felt that four or five weeks ago as well. Obviously, we're getting near the tickly bits and we've got to get some things done."

With the Merseyside club also reportedly working on a deal for Douglas Luiz, it looks like wheels are finally in motion at Everton.

There's reportedly been another development in the Benjamin Sesko saga.

Italian Journalist Fabrizio Romano writes on X, external that Manchester United and RB Leipzig are in talks over the fee package and add-ons to get the deal done as soon as possible.

As he reported earlier, personal terms are already agreed and he says the Slovenian forward is ready to fly to England to finalise the move.

Any Everton fan who doesn't think Grealish walks into starting XI is delusional! Yes, it's probably going to be big money for a loaner, but he is a step above any player we have at the minute.

Everton definitely need a right back and maybe another striker, but in Grealish you have got yourself a game-changer, a fit inform Grealish would be a excellent signing for Everton along with Douglas Luiz. He might now be persuaded to come to Everton with Grealish coming to.

  6. Grealish's diminishing role at Citypublished at 13:46 British Summer Time 6 August

    Noel Sliney
    BBC Sport

It has been a chastening two years for Jack Grealish since he enjoyed the most successful season of his career. He had played an integral role in Manchester City’s historic treble in 2022-23, starting the FA Cup final and every one of their seven knockout ties as the club won the Champions League for the first time. Only six outfield City players spent more time on the pitch than Grealish in the Premier League too.

A hamstring injury halted his momentum early in 2023-24, which the England international ended with more yellow cards (seven) than combined goals and assists (six) across all competitions. He featured in just 40% of the total minutes played by City despite being in the squad for 82% of them.

His involvement dropped to 30% last term as Grealish’s career plummeted to its nadir. Three of his six starts after Christmas came against lower-league opposition in the FA Cup, while 16 starts in total is his fewest in a campaign since he was 20 years old. Unsurprisingly, it has also been the player's least productive season in terms of chances created and dribbling success since returning to the Premier League in 2019.

City’s team structure has seldom afforded Grealish the license to take on and glide past opponents as he did with such insouciance as the talismanic captain at boyhood club Aston Villa. The question now is whether the affable 29-year-old can reverse the downward trajectory of his career – and where he might fit in at Everton, who already have Iliman Ndiaye, Dwight McNeil and Carlos Alcaraz capable of playing left wing or number 10.

As an Aston villa fan I would love to see Jack Grealish back at the club. However, Everton is a better move for his development (he will start more often) and his chance to get back in the England squad for the World Cup.

Everton don’t need Grealish. We have McNeil & Ndiaye to play on the left; Ndiaye & Alcaraz as a 10. Big money on a position we don’t need. Need a RB, Right winger and central midfielder all to improve the first team (not the bench).

  9. Everton need more signings in spite of Grealishpublished at 13:35 British Summer Time 6 August

Follwing the arrivals of Charly Alcaraz, Thierno Barry, Mark Travers and Adam Aznou, Everton's next signing would be their fifth of the summer transfer window.

On the surface, that seems promising with still a few weeks of the window left to go - but considering that Everton have lost five players already this summer, one signing would only be balancing the books of the squad.

The departures of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Abdoulaye Doucore, Ashley Young, Neal Maupay and Mason Holgate - who have all been Everton regulars at some point - leaves the Toffees a player down in multiple positions on the pitch. Loan signings Jack Harrison, Jesper Lindstrom, Orel Mangala and Armando Broja have also returned to their parent clubs.

Everton would need to make at least two signings on top of their current four to give David Moyes more options than he had 12 months ago.

Odd that there's been no talk of a Villa return for Grealish. Would improve Villa's starting XI and, for Grealish, much less of a step down in quality than Everton.

Why don’t Newcastle want Nunez? We love him at Anfield but the fans at St James would adore him! Nunez has to play every game to see his full potential and he’s not doing that at Liverpool. There’s a player there!
