Isak aside completely, when will we all realize that being a likeable character and working hard doesn't make Nunez good enough. He's had enough time now to show it and sadly he just shows rare flashes of brilliance but consistently misses good chances. Wish him luck if he goes!

Liverpool fans love Nunez, but for all his endeavour, he hasn't quite cut it at the elite level. 9 out of 10 for effort but probably 6 out of 10 for the end results.

Definitely a mistake to sell Nunez. Yes he's misfired a lot, but his work rate and commitment to LFC are incredible. Isak is way too pricey and injury prone. Keep Nunez and get Guehi in before it's too late.

Liverpool shouldn’t sell Nunez, he’s coming into the team, he battles in defence as well as up front, they need to keep him!

  3. Nunez on fire in pre-seasonpublished at 12:40 British Summer Time 6 August

So far, the Uruguayan striker has been finding the net with ease during Liverpool's pre-season campaign.

Nunez has netted five times so far - matching his total tally for Premier League goals last season.

The 26-year-old bagged an impressive hat trick against Stoke behind closed doors, a goal against Preston North End and found the net again on Monday against Spanish club Athletic Bilbao.

As a Liverpool fan, I'd be gutted if Nunez left. I don't know what it is about him, but he just suits the club. Just leave Isak to stew and grab him next summer. He'll either cost the same or less. Do we even need him?

I believe we keep Nunez and buy a decent CB. We don’t need Isak. Nunez is still young and will improve.

Isak wants to 'win Champions League, not play in it' - Warnock

Any deal for Nunez could help Liverpool's bid for Alexander Isak. The Sweden striker's future was discussed on MNC club, with Newcastle holding out for a record transfer fee after an initial Liverpool bid.

The i-Paper's Daniel Storey and Pat Nevin questioned Isak's behaviour.

But former Reds defender Stephen Warnock said he can understand why Isak has separated himself from the squad to some extent.

Warnock says the Sweden international is "not thinking of playing in the Champions League, he is thinking of winning it".

Darwin Nunez may be a part of Liverpool's Community Shield squad, but the rumours are that a move to Saudi Arabia is getting closer.

Italian Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed on X, external that Al-Hilal and Liverpool have reached an agreement on Nunez that is "100% done".

He says that the initial fee will be 53 million Euros (£46.2m), and add-ons will be inlcuded to make the deal more lucartive.

"Talks with Nunez are ongoing to get the green light on personal terms." He adds

Darwin Nunez is expected to be in Liverpool's squad for Sunday's Community Shield fixture despite ongoing speculation about his future - that is according to the PA news agency.

The Uruguay international's representatives are in talks with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.

Until the 26-year-old makes a decision on whether he wants to move to the Middle East, there is unlikely to be any approach, according to PA.

Nunez joined Liverpool from Benfica in 2022 and scored five goals and provided three assists in 30 appearances during the Reds' successful Premier League campaign last season.

Premier League champions Liverpool are set to face FA Cup winners Crystal Palace at Wembley in Sunday's season opener.

Talks between Liverpool and Al Hilal over striker Darwin Nunez have opened and are progressing.

Al Hilal, coached by former Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi, are interested in the Uruguay international.

There is no agreement yet, and any move will then be down to Nunez agreeing personal terms.

Offloading Nunez - who was also a Napoli target during the summer - would financially aid Liverpool's efforts to land Newcastle striker Alexander Isak this window.

If United sell Højlund to fund Sesko then they'd still be left with only one (young & inexperienced) out & out striker. Sir Alex had Cole, Yorke, Sheringham, Solskjaer. Højlund was fed scraps... so he starved! United's fortunes will only change when they learn to pass to their Number 9.

  14. How does Sesko compare to other young strikers?published at 11:34 British Summer Time 6 August

    Emlyn Begley
    BBC Sport

Manchester United and Newcastle United have both made big-money bids for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko and are waiting for an answer.

There's a reason why both the Premier League clubs are willing to part with more than £70m to sign the Slovenian.

The 22-year-old striker is Europe's top scorer currently under the age of 23 playing in Europe's top five leagues.

Since August 2023 Sesko has scored 39 league goals, one more than Jude Bellingham in second place.

Big, strong, quick and a clinical finisher, Sesko could be a difference-maker wherever he ends up.

  17. Would Man Utd and Sesko be a good fit?published at 11:17 British Summer Time 6 August

    Emlyn Begley
    BBC Sport

Benjamin Sesko would be a likely starter at one of the world's biggest clubs if he joined Manchester United and could be part of an all-new front line with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

Rasmus Hojlund has only scored 14 league goals in two seasons and by contrast, Sesko has 27 Bundesliga goals in that time since joining RB Leipzig from RB Salzburg.

He could also get plenty of service from the three players nearest him if he was the focal point up top.

Bruno Fernandes created more chances than any other Premier League player last season - 91 - with his team-mates scoring 10 of them while Mbuemo created 70 and Cunha 57.

So why might Sesko not want to move to Old Trafford?

For one, United are not in any European competition this season and finished 15th last season, their worst campaign since they were relegated in 1973-74.

Ruben Amorim has been given the chance to rebuild this summer but a bad start could see a managerial change too.

And Sesko would have to buck a fairly dramatic trend. There is a very strong argument that Portugal midfielder Fernandes is the only outright success United have had in the transfer market since 2016.

    Constantin Eckner
German football writer on The Football News Show

If this deal goes through, it would be the third time Christopher Vivell has signed Benjamin Sesko.

He brought the striker to RB Salzburg, and then in 2022, he convinced him to join RB Leipzig.

Vivell is now the director of recruitment at Manchester United.
