Gravenberch for Liverpool, we are a noticeably worse side when he's not in the team. One of the most underrated players around.

  2. Brighton & Hove Albion - Danny Welbeckpublished at 10:10 GMT 4 November

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Inconsistent Brighton and Hove Albion have not had the same result in successive Premier League matches all season.

But after 10 games the Seagulls are within touching distance of the European places, three points behind third-placed Liverpool.

Scott McCarthy of We are Brighton has picked forward Danny Welbeck as the player the Seagulls can't go without.

"He is the only out-and-out striker Brighton have who is Premier League ready until such time as Fabian Hurzeler feels confident unleashing the Greek teenagers [Charalampos Kostoulas and Stefanos Tzimas]," McCarthy said.

"But it is not just the scarcity of other options which makes Welbeck a key player.

"When he plays well and scores goals, Brighton tend to win.

    "Take note please, Thomas Tuchel."

The 34-year-old, who last featured for England in 2018, is playing so well this season there are calls for him to be recalled to the national set-up.

He has six goals in 10 Premier League appearances this season and of the four games in which Welbeck has found the net, Brighton have won three.

Thumbs up if you agree Welbeck is Brighton's most important player, thumbs down if you disagree.

As an Arsenal fan, there's no denying that Declan Rice is having a huge impact on our success right now. However, I'd actually argue that Gabriel is more important right now. He's an absolute rock at the back, and a leader. Hard to choose between them.

  4. Brentford - Mikkel Damsgaardpublished at 10:05 GMT 4 November

    Brentford

After losing manager Thomas Frank to Spurs over the summer, Brentford are settling in well to their first Premier League season without him.

With 13 points, Keith Andrews' side are six points clear of the relegation zone and five points shy of fifth after 10 games.

Ian Westbrook of the Beesotted podcast thinks Danish midfielder Mikkel Damsgaard is their key player.

"He is the man who makes things tick for Brentford," Westbrook said.

"His vision and ability to spot and play the killer pass is unmatched in the squad and if he plays well, results generally follow."

The 25-year-old has contributed one goal and one assist to Brentford's Premier League campaign so far.

Thumbs up if you agree Damsgaard is Brentford's most important player, thumbs down if you disagree.

100% Caicedo. Yes we’re missing Palmer but I’d be so worried if Moises got injured…which is surely going to happen before too long as he never gets a rest.

Very simple for Chelsea. Mr Moises Caicedo. Palmer may have the star power but our most important player is Caicedo. I don't even want to imagine what we would look like without him.

One of three Premier League teams to have lost just twice so far - leaders Arsenal are the only team with a solitary defeat - Bournemouth's bright start has put them in the conversation for a top-four place come the end of the season.

The Dorset club have 18 points after 10 games and sit fifth in the table.

When it comes to the most important player, Tom Jordan of Back of the Net podcast has little doubt.

"Currently Bournemouth's key player is unquestionably Antoine Semenyo," Jordan said.

"The explosive wide forward already has six goals and three assists to his name this season and is unsurprisingly grabbing the headlines.

"At only 25 years old, his ceiling is high.

"He can play anywhere across the front line, plus he possesses both extraordinary pace and power on a consistent basis."

The Ghana international, who signed from Bristol City in 2023, has played almost every Premier League minute for the Cherries so far this season - he was taken off during added time against Nottingham Forest.

Thumbs up if you agree Semenyo is Bournemouth's most important player, thumbs down if you disagree.

Strong contrast in opinions already on those two.

Loads in favour of Rice, while loads are disagreeing with the Watkins shout.

Villa fans, going to have to hear your thoughts on that one!

  8. Aston Villa - Ollie Watkinspublished at 09:53 GMT 4 November

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa waited five games for their first win of the season, before a run of four successive victories took them from the relegation zone up to the top half of the table.

Unai Emery's side trail third-placed Liverpool by three points but are 11th after 10 games.

David Michael of My Old Man Said blog and podcast thinks Villa's key player is under-performing.

"Villa's squad relies on just one true out-and-out striker - and he has scored just once all season," Michael said.

"Ollie Watkins has long been praised for his all-round play, and rightly so, but he's a confidence player and Villa can't afford to wait until he's 'in the mood'.

"In a system that gives him the trust and the minutes, the goals have to come."

The 29-year-old England striker, who is Villa's all-time leading goalscorer in the Premier League, has started every league game for them this season.

Thumbs up if you agree Watkins is Aston Villa's most important player, thumbs down if you disagree.

Arsenal have made a brilliant start and are looking convincing in their bid for a first Premier League title since 2003-04.

After 10 games, the Gunners sit six points clear of second-placed Manchester City.

Laura Kirk-Francis from the Latte Firm podcast has selected midfielder Declan Rice as the side's key player.

"Is there anything Declan Rice can't do?" Kirk-Francis said.

"This season Rice has been imperious, not only delivering inch-perfect set-piece deliveries but now adding goals to his output.

"His transfer fee of £105m continues to look like a steal for the Gunners."

The 26-year-old, who signed from West Ham in 2023, has helped Arsenal to seven clean sheets while making five goal contributions in the Premier League this season.

So after a largely positive start to the season, Everton are now winless in their last three games.

They remain in 14th place in the Premier League table, on 12 points from their 10 games played.

  13. Everton's failure to take chancespublished at 09:34 GMT 4 November

    Sunderland 1-1 Everton

    Matthew Hobbs
    BBC Sport

Manager David Moyes cut a frustrated figure for most of Everton’s evening on Wearside after a host of chances to help secure a confidence-boosting win went begging.

Young striker Thierno Barry made just a third Premier League start and was involved in the Toffees’ opening goal, battling to keep possession before Iliman Ndiaye burst away to score.

But, after the £27.5m summer signing missed from close range, he was substituted for Beto in the second half – the ninth Premier League game in a row in which Moyes has felt compelled to change his centre-forward.

Moyes’ frustration was then compounded by Everton’s failure to convert a two-on-one opportunity in the final seconds, with substitute Carlos Alcaraz unable to find a pass to Idrissa Gueye, who had a clear run on goal.

The game sums up Everton’s troubles this season – a failure to convert chances, rather than to create them in the first place.

Jack Grealish would have had his fifth assist of the season had Barry converted his first-half cross from close range.

No Premier League player has created more chances from open play than Grealish (20) this season, while Ndiaye (13) ranks joint sixth.

Everton, however, have netted just 10 goals, with only four teams having scored fewer.

    Sunderland 1-1 Everton

Everton's search for a goalscorer is nothing new.

The club has spent £160m over the past seasons trying to find someone to unlock opposition defences.

Here is a reminder of those who have been charged with firing in the goals for the Toffees:

    • Richarlison - signed from Watford for an initial £35m in 2018, scored 53 goals in 152 appearances
    • Dominic Calvert-Lewin - signed for £1.5m from Sheffield United in 2016, scored 71 goals in 273 appearances
    • Cenk Tosun - signed for £27m from Besiktas in 2017, scored 11 goals in 61 appearances
    • Moise Kean - signed for an initial £25m from Juventus in 2019, scored 4 goals in 39 appearances
    • Sandro Ramirez - signed for 5.2m from Malaga in 2017, scored 1 goal in 16 appearances
    • Neal Maupay - signed for an initial £12m from Brighton, scored 1 goal in 32 appearances

Salomon Rondon, Joshua King, Enner Valencia and Armando Broja all spent time on loan at the club with a mixture of success.

Moyes needs to stop pummeling his strikers in public. They aren't up to scratch, but either one is given a run to find form or both are dropped and he uses the squad and a 'false nine'. It's a nice excuse for him returning pretty average results this season.

  17. If not Barry then who?published at 09:24 GMT 4 November

    Sunderland 1-1 Everton

    BetoImage source, Getty Images

Guinea-Bissau international Beto, who joined from Udinese for £21.5m two years ago, often frustrates Everton's fanbase.

On one hand, a flurry of five goals in four matches in February, including a well-taken one-touch finish in the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, were pivotal in steering Everton away from relegation.

On the other, a miskick in front of an open goal in the goalless draw with Aston Villa in September - one of several occasions when Beto's scoring instincts have deserted him.

"Beto epitomises the struggle," said Mike Richards, from the Unholy Trinity podcast, external.

"With Udinese willing to accept a deal that involved no initial payment, it was a deal of convenience and not quality.

"He won't be the 20-goal-a-season striker we crave, despite the affection so many of us have for him."

Moyes destroyed Barry last night. He was playing well, but any confidence he had gained was wiped out by being subbed so early [57 minutes]. Barry needs consistent game time to improve, although Everton do need someone for right now. Play Barry to the New Year and hope we get a loan.

  19. Will summer signing Barry come good for Everton?published at 09:14 GMT 4 November

    Sunderland 1-1 Everton

    Thierno BarryImage source, Getty Images

French striker Thierno Barry, a £27m summer signing from Villarreal, is understandably taking time to adjust to the pace of Premier League football in only his second campaign in a top European league.

The 23-year-old scored 11 goals in La Liga last season and while he was prolific in Switzerland's top flight, he is a raw talent who requires patience but has not even managed a shot on target for the Toffees so far.

"Barry has been brought in as a development project - a young player who needs patience, support and faith from both the club and supporters," said Mike Richards, from the Unholy Trinity podcast, external.

Do you agree Everton fans? Are you willing to be patient with Barry?

Thumbs up if you think he will come good, thumbs down if you don't.

  20. Everton's goalscoring problempublished at 09:08 GMT 4 November

    Sunderland 1-1 Everton

Only four teams have scored fewer than Everton's 10 goals in the league this season - Wolves, Nottingham Forest, Leeds and Aston Villa.

They have a total xG of 13.32, while only half of their 60 shots have been on target.

Monday's goalscorer Iliman Ndiaye has scored four of their 10 goals.

While their combined strike force of Beto and summer signing Thierno Barry have contributed one between them.

Earlier this season, Beto was called out for missing sitters in back-to-back games, and on Monday night it was team-mate Barry's time to somehow miss the target from just yards out.

Barry is yet to find the net since joining from Villarreal for £27m in the summer - and has not even managed a shot on target.

Everton manager David Moyes has alternated between his two strikers throughout the season but, so far, neither has made the lone striker position their own.
