Summary

  1. City's keeper merry-go-roundpublished at 12:26 BST

Man City v Man Utd (Sun, 16:30 BST)

It is all change in the Manchester City goal after an intriguing summer that saw two new faces arrive and one depart.

James Trafford returned from Burnley for £27m and has started all three of Manchester City's Premier League games. However, his position was placed under scrutiny after an error against Tottenham led to Joao Palhinha's opening goal.

Since then Ederson's eight-year spell at Etihad Stadium came to an end when he joined Fenerbahce, with Italy international Gianluigi Donnarumma arriving from Paris St-Germain for £26m.

  2. Plenty to prove on both sides of Manchesterpublished at 12:24 BST

Man City v Man United (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    BBC Radio 5 Live

More from Jack Pitt-Brooke, from The Athletic, on the Manchester Derby: "Both teams by their standards had pretty poor seasons last year and neither of them have started this season especially convincingly, United are actually ahead of City in the table at the moment.

"Both teams need to prove that they are on the right track this season, there is probably more pressure on [Ruben] Amorim than there is on [Pep] Guardiola but it is quite a difficult one to call as both teams come in to it in patchy form."

Jack Pitt-Brooke, from The Athletic, on Manchester City's new goalkeeper: "I think [Gianluigi] Donnarumma is the most interesting one. In Ederson, City had the best footballing goalkeeper in the past eight years and now he's gone and they've gone in a completely different direction. Donnarumma is a brilliant goalkeeper but he's quite 20th century, he's not great with his feet so I'm interested to see how that works."

Pep Guardiola faces the media this lunchtime before Manchester City's crunch Premier League clash against rivals Manchester United on Sunday.

Guardiola looked like he had some downtime during the international break, spotted at the US Open as well as being seen speaking to Tommy Fleetwood on the golf course.

And there will be plenty to get stuck into with the Spaniard as the break added to the squad's growing injury list.

What options does Guardiola have in the forward line? Will Gianluigi Donnarumma get a debut in goal? We'll find out when he faces the camera later.

  6. Amorim to address Man Utd injury and goalkeeping issuespublished at 12:09 BST

Man City v Man Utd (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport Manchester United reporter

You never quite know what you will get from Ruben Amorim but there is plenty for the Manchester United head coach to discuss when he speaks to the media this lunchtime.

It is the first time he will have spoken since deadline day, when United lined up deals for Emi Martinez and Senne Lammens before eventually paying Royal Antwerp £18.1m for the 23-year-old Belgian.

Since then, Andre Onana has left to join Turkish club Trabzonspor on loan.

Amorim is bound to be asked for his rationale behind the move and who will be in goal at Manchester City on Sunday.

There has also been no update on the fitness of striker Matheus Cunha and midfielder Mason Mount, who were both injured during the first-half of United's 3-2 win over Burnley on 30 August.

Huge game for Villa tomorrow at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Surely it's time to find our flow now. Will be great to see new signing Harvey Elliott in action, I really believe he could be the spark that we were missing in front of goal.

  12. Will Sancho & Elliott become loan stars at Villa?published at 11:43 BST

Everton v Aston Villa (Sat, 15:00 BST)

Aston Villa did, of course, manage to make their own attacking loan signings at the end of the summer transfer window.

Manchester United's England winger Jadon Sancho has been given a chance to rekindle his career at Villa Park, while rising England Under-21s star Harvey Elliott was tempted to leave Anfield for a temporary stay in the West Midlands.

Elliott is set to make an instant return to Merseyside for Saturday's game at Everton.

  13. Is Grealish back to his best?published at 11:37 BST

Everton v Aston Villa (Sat, 15:00 BST)

What Aston Villa wouldn't give to get a prime Jack Grealish back in their squad right now?

Could the England attacker, who has been named the Premier League's player of the month for August, be getting back to his best at Everton following a stuttering couple of seasons at Manchester City?

Jack Pitt-Brooke, of The Athletic, told BBC Radio 5 Live that Aston Villa seem to have "lost momentum" after making positive strides under manager Unai Emery in recent seasons: “It feels a bit like they’ve tried so hard in the last few years, Villa under Unai Emery, they’ve given him everything he’s wanted, but it feels like they’ve lost a bit of momentum and lost a bit of energy.

“They’ve been distracted by the whole Emiliano Martínez saga. Their season needs a kick start. They need a bit of fresh energy and injection of pace."

  15. Contrasting fortunespublished at 11:26 BST

Everton v Aston Villa (Sat, 15:00 BST)

Jack Grealish's form has been a factor in Everton's impressive start to the season, as an important part of a collective effort under David Moyes.

They find themselves in fifth place in the Premier League table after following up an opening defeat at Leeds with back-to-back wins against Wolves and Brighton.

Saturday's opponents Aston Villa, meanwhile, have suffered back-to-back defeats against Crystal Palace and Brentford after claiming their only point in a goalless draw at home to Newcastle in their opening game of the season.

Everton v Aston Villa (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Jack Grealish is, of course, going to be facing former club Aston Villa in Everton colours at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday.

Jack Pitt-Brooke, from The Athletic, spoke to 5 Live Breakfast earlier about the Manchester City player's stunning start to his loan spell at Everton: “I’ve really enjoyed watching [Jack] Grealish for Everton so far this season. I think he really needed that move, he needed a change of scenery and needed a manger and fanbase who can really get behind him and he’s rewarded Everton so far with some brilliant performances."

  17. Grealish named PL player of the monthpublished at 11:10 BST
