Juric was named as Russell Martin's replacement four days before Christmas.

The Croat joined after a stint at Roma where he was sacked in November after just 12 matches in charge. He lasted just 53 days at the Serie A club.

The job at Southampton was Juric's first outside Italy. He began his managerial career at Mantova in 2014 before moving on to manage Crotone, Genoa and Hellas Verona.

Prior to joining Roma, he helped Torino to three mid-table finishes in Serie A, forging a reputation for being in charge of defensively solid teams.

The Premier League club are still to make an official announcement but it is understood in the wake of relegation being confirmed from the Premier League on Sunday, Southampton have decided to part ways with the Croatian.

Juric was appointed on an 18-month deal in December following the dismissal of Russell Martin.

However, he has been unable to turn the season round.

Yesterday’s defeat at Tottenham was their 25th of the season. They have won two matches and are on just 10 points, fewer than Derby’s worst ever Premier League return of 11 in 2007-08.

  5. 'It was not 45 minutes of disaster'published at 11:13 British Summer Time

    Fulham 3-2 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot speaking about his team's overall performance against Fulham in his post-match news conference:

"I saw parts before we conceded the second goal, normal parts for us. I saw some very good build-up situations and the way we positioned ourselves so it wasn't 45 minutes of disaster but the errors we made were something that we are not used to and that is different to playing poorly.

"One of the reasons we are in the position that we are in is that we don't make a lot of mistakes and if we do, players try and make up for them. This is what we tried to do with the second goal but unfortunately instead of deflecting wide it went into the goal. This can happen when you play a good team like Fulham - when you make mistakes they have the quality to punish you.

"I think in the end we created so many chances that we could have made up for it but we lacked time. In the last 20/25 minutes it was clear for everyone that we could score the third - that's why actual playing time wasn't the most in the last 25 minutes."

I think Liverpool fans are more unhappy at the way the team has performed over the last 6 games, not so much because of yesterday's defeat. But in saying that, Arsenal haven't been hitting any great heights, 9 points from a possible 18 in the last 6 league games, whereas Liverpool have bagged 13 from 18. So let's calm down on the doom and gloom. They are still 11 points ahead.

One good thing for Liverpool between now and the end of the season is that they have a week to prepare for each of their remaining seven games.

There are no midweek matches left for the Reds whose games all take place on Sundays.

While nearest rivals Arsenal are involved in the Champions League this week, Liverpool have a clear week to prepare for West Ham's visit to Anfield next Sunday (14:00 BST).

"I'm pretty sure we will come back stronger and in the next game we will show what we can do," midfielder Alexis Mac Allister said after the defeat to Fulham.

  8. How will Liverpool's points tally compare to previous title wins?published at 10:56 British Summer Time

    Fulham 3-2 Liverpool

Going into their final seven matches of the Premier League season, Liverpool are sitting on 73 points. The maximum they can get is 94, but they would have to win all seven matches in order to get there.

Since the Premier League moved to a 20 team format for the start of the 1995/96 season, the title-winning sides of each season have averaged a total of 87.7 points.

If Liverpool end the season on the same points per game total as they averaged throughout this season, they will finish on 89 points.

In the last eight seasons, title-winning sides have significantly improved in terms of points tallies for the season. Since the start of the 2016/17 season, title-winning sides have averaged 93.6 points.

The average title wins of teams prior to the 2016/17 season was much lower. Title-winning teams won the league at an average rate of 85.5 points per term.

Alexis Mac Allister says Liverpool still have work to do to win the Premier League title - and must cut out the mistakes that cost them at Fulham.

The runaway leaders produced a shoddy defensive performance as they went down 3-2 at Fulham.

Liverpool's remaining seven league matches are West Ham (home), Leicester (away), Tottenham (home), Chelsea (away), Arsenal (home), Brighton (away) and Crystal Palace (home).

"I think there is going to be a lot of people saying that this Premier League is done, but in the dressing room we know that it's not," said Mac Allister after the defeat at Craven Cottage.

The Argentina 2022 World Cup winner added: "We still have a lot of games coming up and all of them are really difficult in a league like this.

"Everyone is fighting for something. We have to make sure that we play the way we know and play the way we want and not make the mistakes we've done against Fulham."

Are teams now not allowed 'off days?' Fulham were better than Liverpool, they deserved to win, they're a very good team, move on. Seems to be a huge over exaggeration from fans etc today..

    Fulham 3-2 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot was asked in his post-match news conference on Sunday whether complacency has crept into his side recently:

"There is no reason for us to be complacent. We are not number one at the moment because we win every game by a margin of three or four goals. Everyone that has seen our games knows it takes us so much effort and so much hard work, combined with quality of course."

"The team that won the league the last four seasons [Man City] were already 3-0 up at half-time almost every single game they played and that is not the way it is for us so we are fully aware of the fact that we have to compete for seven more games."

"We showed when we played Everton it was a close-call and today was a close-call. Many days we have been on the right side but today we were on the wrong side - mainly because of the errors that we made."

Yesterday showed exactly why this season's title race has been a nonevent. Liverpool haven't actually been that good, the fixture list has been kind to them (playing most teams when they were out of form), and when they finally get caught out not one team has been good enough to capitalise. Very dull.

With Liverpool out of all cup competitions, their full focus between now and the end of the season is getting over the line in the Premier League.

    • Leicester City (a)
    • Tottenham (h)
    • Chelsea (a)
    • Arsenal (h)
    • Brighton (a)

How does this affect the title picture, I hear you ask?

Well, Liverpool would still win it, obviously - but they will have to wait until May to get that coveted (C) next to their name.

The Reds require 11 points so even if Arsenal win their next four - if Liverpool do the same - they will be crowned champions.

It would mean they would secure the title at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea on 4 May.

Liverpool's first game after Chelsea is Arsenal, at Anfield.

This means the first guard of honour awarded to Arne Slot's men would come from Mikel Arteta and his side.

A reminder that Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah are all out of contract this summer.

Will any of them still be at Liverpool next season?

A reminder of what Arne Slot said recently when asked about the trio: "We don't talk about contract situations here.

"Is it a distraction? No, it isn't because I'm fully focused on the individuals and the team.

"They are part of the team and I'm trying to work with them in the best possible way to get the best out of them. It's not a distraction for me at all."

Liverpool have been the best of a pretty average bunch this season. The likes of Forest, Fulham and Bournemouth challenging for European spots and United and Spurs languishing in the bottom half is indicative of poor quality in the Premier League not increased competition. Better Liverpool teams than this have come nowhere near the title in the past and recent results are a better indication of where this squad sits than their league position would suggest.

    John Murray
BBC Radio 5 Live chief football correspondent on 5 Live Breakfast

I’ve seen enough matches where Fulham play the big teams at Craven Cottage and they can make it difficult for them. Liverpool are faltering, there's no question about that now. It will still obviously take a collapse of monumental proportions for Liverpool not to clinch the title.

That [defeat at Fulham] will niggle them because they’ve had such a good, long unbeaten run in the league back to September so to lose that, clearly it will niggle them.

A lack of challenger and Mo Salah means Liverpool will still win the title very comfortably. Credit to them, they've taken advantage of a very low Premier League standard this season, the fact that Chelsea, who have been poor, sit 4th confirm this. An injury to Salah like the one Saka had for Arsenal and we'd be looking at a very different title race.

Due to Arsenal being held to a draw at Everton - the earliest Liverpool can win the Premier League title remains the same as it did last week.

20 April is the day when Arne Slot's side travel to relegation-bound Leicester City - should results go their way of course.

For this to happen, it would require Arsenal to pick up one point or less from their next two fixtures against Brentford and Ipswich Town while the Reds take the maximum six points from West Ham United and Leicester.
