Harvey: I'm a Liverpool Fan, but this has been coming for two months. We've been awful for that long now....further proof we need a left back as well, Robbo has lost it, time to say goodbye...this team needed to lose to get the kick up the backside we deserve.

As has so often been the case this season, Liverpool dropping points had little impact on the Premier League table.

With Arsenal being held to a draw at Everton, the gap at the top was barely chipped at and now sits at 11 points with seven games left to play.

That means Liverpool need to pick up 11 points from their remaining fixtures to ensure they are crowned as 2024-25 Premier League champions.

Due to a superior goal difference over Mikel Arteta's Arsenal, 10 points would likely be enough to land the title, however, to be 110% mathematically certain - 11 from seven is the target.

Rodrigo Muniz caused Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate all kinds of problems and his goal was fantastic. He was a nuisance and it was the most frustrated I'd seen Van Dijk.

Usually he is cool, calm and collected but he was kicking the ball out and shouting at the teammates. Muniz got right under their skin.

Full credit to Fulham because they gave Liverpool no time on the ball and were really in their faces. Liverpool made the mistakes and Fulham punished them.

Arne Slot has done very well in his first season, when a new coach comes in you never know if the players will like their ideas. To be in this position in the league at this stage we could have only dreamed of at the start of the season. My biggest criticism is his lack of rotation but he’s playing with a squad that isn’t his. Let’s get the league done and celebrate and see what the transfer window brings as we need some more depth.

Fulham were outstanding and the atmosphere was incredible. They needed to bounce back after the defeat to Crystal Place the week before [in the FA Cup quarter-final] and to a man they were fantastic.

Calvin Bassey and Antonee Robinson did not give Mohamed Salah a kick. Bassey was aggressive, he got forward and the midfield were strong.

'Mo will show up' - Slot not worried by Salah's form

Should Liverpool fans be worried about Mohamed Salah's form?

There is no doubt he has been outstanding at times this season and looks nailed on to finish with the Premier League Golden Boot after scoring 27 times - six more than his nearest rival Erling Haaland.

But Salah's blank at Fulham on Sunday means he has gone four club games without scoring.

The Egypt forward managed just one attempt against the Cottagers as Liverpool lost away from home in the Premier League for the first time this season. He had 50 touches in total but was largely quiet.

"Mo will show up again, I don’t worry about that," Reds boss Arne Slot told MOTD2.

Really disappointed in Arsenal and Mikel. Matches like the Everton one were must win games, regardless of slightly iffy refereeing. We were waiting for Liverpool to slip up but couldn’t put anymore pressure on them. We don’t deserve to win the league with so many toothless matches this season.

  8. What does the xG say?published at 08:35 British Summer Time

    Fulham 3-2 Liverpool

Football fans will be the first to admit that we can be the melodramatic kind when a result doesn't go the way we wanted or expected.

But was Fulham v Liverpool the perfect example of that?

'This Liverpool team isn't actually that great.' 'The Premier League is a poor league this season.' 'Liverpool's class of 2024-25 wouldn't have won the title in another season.'

Those have all been the classic shouts heard throughout the year and highlighted once again as the Reds slipped to defeat at Craven Cottage.

But was it not just, as former goalkeeper Shay Given stated on Match of the Day, '15 minutes of madness' from Arne Slot's side in the first half?

Aside from the goals, which were all gift wrapped by Liverpool's defence, the home side rarely threatened.

And the xG backs that up.

Virgil van Dijk needed to be stronger for Rodrigo Muniz's goal which ended up being the winning goal. But Muniz's first touch was unbelievable while his second touch just to get it down.

It's a mixture of brilliant play by Fulham and very poor defending by Liverpool.

Match of the Day 2 analysis: How '15 minutes of madness' cost Liverpool

Liverpool were very poor. There was 15 minutes of madness in the first half and that's not like Liverpool at all. They're top of the league for a reason because they are brilliant at the back. But Ibrahima Konate was all over the place in the first half.

  12. Liverpool miss out on history with defeatpublished at 08:11 British Summer Time

    Fulham 3-2 Liverpool

Liverpool suffered only their second Premier League defeat of the season against Fulham, ending their run of 26 unbeaten league games since losing 1-0 to Nottingham Forest in September.

It was their first away league defeat since April 2024 vs. Everton (0-2), ending a run of 17 away matches without defeat in the top-flight.

The Reds needed to survive just three more away matches in the league to end the season unbeaten away from home, but it wasn't to be.

Only four teams in history have achieved that feat - the most recent being Manchester United in the 2020-21 campaign.

  13. Fulham stay in hunt for European placespublished at 08:07 British Summer Time

    Fulham 3-2 Liverpool

Eight days on from a bruising home defeat by Crystal Palace that ended their dreams of FA Cup glory, Fulham produced a display that ensures there is still much to excite the fans before the end of the season.

With seven games left, they remain in the fight for Champions League places, especially given fifth is likely to be enough to qualify.

Unlikely as that may have been at the start of the season, it should come as no shock to anyone who witnessed the first 45 minutes against Liverpool.

There is no doubt Fulham were helped by some errors, but the build-up to the first goal was a prime example of the flowing football they're capable of, while their resilience shone through in the second.

With games in hand for Newcastle and Manchester City, the Champions League remains a long shot but if they can match their showing against Liverpool between now and the end of May, anything is possible.

Should it come to it, a place in the Europa League or the Conference League is not a bad consolation.

Despite Liverpool's setback at Craven Cottage, a record-equalling 20th championship is surely a formality now? The Reds could even win the title as early as 20 April - if results elsewhere go their way - with no team in Premier League history throwing away a lead of this size at this stage of the season.

How good have Arne Slot's team been this season? Are fans overreacting to the Fulham defeat? Do we expect too much? How can Liverpool compete again next year? Do they need something new in the squad?

  15. Nunes the £53m full-backpublished at 07:58 British Summer Time

    Man Utd 0-0 Man City

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

Matheus Nunes is finally making a lasting impression at Manchester City - as a full-back.

City spent £53m to bring the Portugal international north from Wolves in 2023.

It was a deal Pep Guardiola went for as his attempts to sign Lucas Paqueta from West Ham were stalled by the Brazilian's FA betting charge, which has still not been resolved.

For a while it seemed Nunes would go the same way as Kalvin Phillips, who failed to impress from the moment he arrived from Leeds and is currently on loan at Ipswich.

But with injuries decimating Guardiola's squad, Nunes has found his role - as a right-back.

"He can become a good right-back," said Guardiola.

"He's not a player to play in the middle because he's not clever enough with composure. But he has incredible skills and is learning a lot.

"Full-backs always have a big mistake (in them) when they are sleeping for the cross at the far post but he defended two or three really good crosses that Bruno put in.

"He can play in that position and help us a lot.

"When you start the season and say you are going to play Matheus at right-back and Nico (O'Reilly) at left-back you would say what are you talking about but it is what it is."

  16. 'The plan nearly worked' - will Maresca regret selection gamble?published at 07:56 British Summer Time

    Brentford 0-0 Chelsea

    Nizaar Kinsella
BBC Sport football news reporter at the Brentford Community Stadium

When Enzo Maresca's starting line-up was announced before Chelsea's trip to Brentford on Sunday, there was a sense of surprise among many Blues fans across social media.

And, after a drab goalless draw at Brentford stretched their winless away run to eight matches to leave their Champions League hopes in the balance, the questions about his team selection grew even louder.

Maresca rested Nicolas Jackson, Cole Palmer, Marc Cucurella and an in-form Pedro Neto against their west London rivals. In came Malo Gusto, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Christopher Nkunku and Noni Madueke, who all struggled to make an impact.

All four of Chelsea's rested stars came on in the second half and the Blues went from having just six shots and one on target before the interval to 17 shots and four on target.

The Chelsea boss also faced criticism from sections of the away end, who have shown increasing frustration at his style of play, amid chants of "attack, attack, attack" and "we've had a shot" during a poor first half.

The bigger concern is, although Chelsea remain fourth, the fight for the Champions League places is looking increasingly competitive, with Manchester City, Aston Villa and Newcastle all within three points of the Blues.

    The inevitable has been confirmed.

Southampton's 3-1 defeat at Tottenham guaranteed what everyone had known for a long time now - they will be playing Championship football next season.

Ivan Juric's men have become the first Premier League team to be relegated with as many as seven matches still to play.

And they still need two more points to avoid taking the tag of being the worst Premier League team in history from Derby County's class of 2007-08.

With fourth-bottom Wolves 12 points clear, Saints are almost certain to be joined in the second tier by Leicester and Ipswich, with the trio needing another 19 points to avoid becoming the worst bottom three ever in the Premier League.

Nothing else is certain, not least the future of manager Juric whose 18-month contract is believed to contain a break clause.

"No, now we will see everything," said the 49-year-old Croatian when asked if talks had taken place regarding his future.

"We are thinking just about the games now. We will see now what everyone thinks, what I think. The fans deserve much more and we have to understand all of the mistakes we have made and then create something really strong.

"It's a difficult day, a tough day but I see the fans, how they love their players and their team - it's something incredible. This experience has to serve to create something stronger than this."

  18. Casemiro has big role to play at Man Utdpublished at 07:54 British Summer Time

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

Amid all the noise - on and off the pitch - around yesterday's Manchester derby, it was interesting to note Casemiro turned in another effective midfield display.

The 33-year-old has born the brunt of huge criticism this season as he struggled to deal with the physical demands of the Premier League.

However, almost without anyone noticing, the former Real Madrid star has eased his way back into Ruben Amorim's team.

Casemiro completed the full 90 minutes in the draw with Arsenal on 9 March and started both legs of the Europa League last-16 game victory over Real Sociedad.

He started the defeat at Nottingham Forest last Tuesday and completed the full 90 minutes against Manchester City yesterday.

"He wasn’t playing because he wasn’t the best option but he continued to work," reflected Amorim after the 0-0 draw at Old Trafford.

"I look at my players. If you improve what we ask they have the opportunity. The credit is all Casemiro. He is our player and will continue to be."

Casemiro still has a year left on a massive contract and has already stated his intention to remain at United for another season.

  19. Fans 'should be ashamed' of Foden chants - Guardiolapublished at 07:50 British Summer Time

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said derogatory chants about Phil Foden's mother from Manchester United fans showed "a lack of class".

Speaking after an insipid and goalless Manchester derby at Old Trafford on Sunday, Guardiola said it was not an issue for United but for the individuals involved.

England international Foden was targeted by insulting chants during the first half of the Premier League match.

"Lack of class. But it's not United, it's the people, you know?" said Guardiola.

"We are so exposed, people who are on the screen in world football - managers, owners, and football players especially.

"Honestly, I don't understand the mind of the people involving the mum of Phil. It's a lack of integrity, class, and they should be ashamed."

The outcome of the game means City remain fifth in the Premier League, a point behind Chelsea in fourth, with United back in 13th.

"Not so much red or blue - grey would be better."

The overwhelming feeling around the 196th Manchester derby was neatly summed up by a comment posted on the BBC Sport website.

It might be a stretch to claim, as one respondent did, it was 'the worst derby match in the world'. But the sentiment encapsulated the mood.

"It's a Manchester derby," seethed former United captain Gary Neville on Sky Sports after the dull goalless draw at Old Trafford. "It should have more blood, thunder, risk, and courage involved in playing the game.

"The congratulations and love-in I'm watching says both teams are happy with 0-0. It looks like it's Sunday afternoon and they're going to go for a roast dinner together now."

United head coach Ruben Amorim has not been in England long but the former Sporting boss has worked a few things out.

"I understand everything," he said. "Gary Neville is critical about everything. I understand that part."
