  4. Vardy - last man standing from 2016 Premier League triumphpublished at 15:21 British Summer Time 24 April

Jamie Vardy was the last man standing from the 2015-16 Premier League winning squad. The talismanic figure signed with The Foxes in 2013 from Fleetwood Town for £1 million, which was a non-league record.

The forward was a significant piece of the puzzle that got Leicester promoted in 2014 and served a more important role in their title win in 2016, contributing with 25 goals and ending the season as the second-highest scorer in the Premier League.

Every players in that squad left the club in the ensuing years, some for big money moves, some when their contract expired, except for Vardy.

Vardy enjoyed even more success subsequently with the FA Cup triumph in 2021 and the Community Shield win a couple of months later. He was part of the squad that was relegated soon after but achieved promotion again in 2024.

Jamie Vardy has to be one of the best premiership players of all time when you consider where he has come from, how late in his career he reached the premier league and what he has achieved. One of the best goalscorers in prem league history. Should’ve played more for England but Southgate loved his Kane. Well done Jamie you’re an inspiration.

Vardy wouldn’t even need to move house if he wants to play European football in Nottingham next season. And his old mate Wes Morgan will be able to show him about the place as well. Everyone happy?

In 2019-20, Jamie Vardy won the Premier League Golden Boot by scoring 23 goals from 35 appearances.

In doing so at the age of 33, he became the oldest player in Premier League history to win it.

At one point during that season, he was on target for eight games running, including a hat-trick in a 9-0 win against Southampton and a double against Aston Villa.

He finished one goal ahead of Arsenal's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Southampton's Danny Ings to claim the top scorer award.

Leicester City should organise one last match for Jamie - his team against a team of former and present Foxes players. All profits could go to a charity of Jamie's choice. It would be fantastic end to his illustrious career at the KP.

  11. 'He enjoyed the banter'published at 14:58 British Summer Time 24 April

    Robert Huth
Former Leicester defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Jamie was one of them who loved confrontation, I think he was thriving on it. He picked on a particular player and he made him his enemy. He enjoyed the banter with the away fans. Every now and then you get a unique individual like him.

He started late in the Premier League and I think he really appreciated the chance he got from Leicester.

Thanks Karan. That's me done for the day, and for a bit actually. I'm on my holidays until May 8, so don't get up to any nonsense without me.

Just before Charlotte takes over, I know it's off topic, but I can't leave without mentioning Aston Villa's proposed stadium expansion to take Villa Park above a capacity of 50,000.

The club's announcement video is very impressive - and for one main reason.

An ex-Villa striker narrates it. Someone who's a bit of an expert when it comes to building redevelopment...

  17. 'No further news' - Van Nistelrooy on his own futurepublished at 14:38 British Summer Time 24 April

Wolves v Leicester (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Leicester City

Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy on his own future at the club: "What I can say is that over the past months, I've had conversations with the board and the chairman. And they know where I stand and what I think is necessary to move forward in this situation towards the new season.

"Those conversations have taken place and over the past weeks, I've been sharing with you that there is no further news than that."

"I talked about alignment. It's necessary to find alignment - the quicker the better in the best interest of the football club and that is what I am urging. There are great people who are working here that I got to know very closely. I know what my plan is to move forward and bring the club back and build it back up with the people working in this building.

"But I am waiting on that alignment, and as I said, the quicker the better. That's where it stands now."

  18. Vardy approaching major milestonespublished at 14:35 British Summer Time 24 April

    Karan Vinod
    BBC Sport

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy may not be leaving the club on a high collectively but individually, the forward has plenty to play for in the remainder of the season.

The Foxes' talismanic striker is on 198 goals for the club in all competitions and on 496 appearances. With five games left in the season for Leicester, barring an injury, Vardy is likely to hit the 500 appearances milestone and if he bags two more goals, then he could also hit 200 goals.

200 goals in 500 appearances for Leicester City through two divisions is a remarkable achievement.

  20. 'Vardy talked about his next move'published at 14:30 British Summer Time 24 April

Wolves v Leicester (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Leicester City

Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy on Jamie Vardy's next move: "He talked about his next move. It's an open book. For him, it's a time to reflect, from the conversation I had with him.

"Of course, together with his family, he has to make a decision where to play because he wants to carry on playing. That's as far as it went."

On whether Vardy's final games for the club will be extra motivation for players: "His farewell is above anything and deserves all the credit and honour possible from the club, squad, supporters and all the people who love football towards him. That's how we will move forward."
