He can always still finish. Can Jamie outrun a Premier League defender at this stage of his career? I really struggle to think so and that is not being disrespectful at all. Maybe his Premier League days are done or maybe someone will take a chance on him. His finishing will still be there.

He might not have the desire to drop down or go abroad. That's completely up to him.

Gordon Banks or Gary Lineker are my guesses.

Banks was a World Cup winner while at Leicester, and was named Fifa goalkeeper of the year every year from 1966 to 1971.

Lineker was Ballon d'Or runner-up in 1986, a season and a half after leaving Leicester - and won the Cup Winners' Cup with Barcelona.

    Robert Huth
Former Leicester defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

He wasn't the best trainer, he saved his energy for the games. At times he was really poor in training which is funny with how amazing he was on the pitch.

When you look back, he scored pretty much any goal possible. He is very flexible in terms of his approach to the game and scoring goals. He was the ultimate team-mate. He would chase lost causes.

Jamie Vardy made his Premier League debut in August 2014 as a substitute in a draw against Arsenal.

He bagged his first goal and set up four others as the Foxes came back from 3-1 down to beat Manchester United 5-3 the following month.

Since then, he has scored 142 more to establish himself as one of the greatest strikers the Premier League has seen.

Jamie Vardy has scored 143 goals across 10 seasons in the Premier League - all of them coming in Leicester colours.

Only Harry Kane (213 for Tottenham), Sergio Aguero (184 for Manchester City), and Thierry Henry (175 for Arsenal) have scored more in the league for a single club.

Even as a Liverpool fan, if I were Everton, I’d be on the phone right now, trying to sign Vardy. Okay, he’s 38, and he’s nowhere near a 30-goal a season striker, but he’d get Everton at least a dozen, maybe 15 goals a season, more than Calvert-Lewin would get them, and despite his age, he’d probably get fewer injuries than Calvert-Lewin anyway. And Vardy might be available for less wages as well, and on a free transfer. I’d be amazed if Everton don’t make a move for him, no brainer.

  15. When Vardy rejected Arsenal offerpublished at 13:00 British Summer Time 24 April

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

It was while Jamie Vardy was in France on England duty at Euro 2016 that it emerged Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had activated a reported £20m transfer clause in his Leicester City contract.

The 29-year-old had met Wenger, but then backed away from the deal to stay at Leicester City, who were then reigning Premier League champions.

He signed a lucrative new deal at The King Power Stadium, but it was an act of loyalty that only added another chapter to his Leicester legend.

    Nick Mashiter
    BBC Sport football news reporter

Jamie Vardy is two goals away from scoring 200 for Leicester, with five games left of the season and his Foxes career.

As well as winning the Premier League and FA Cup he also helped the Foxes to the Champions League quarter-finals in 2016-17 and the Europa Conference League semi-final in 2022.

He described this season, after relegation was confirmed on Sunday, as a "total embarrassment" and former Foxes team-mate Marc Albrighton feels there would never be an ideal time to leave.

"He certainly wouldn't have wanted to go out on these terms but you've just got to recognise when you're ready and when the time is right," he said.

"I don't think there's ever been a good time for him to do this. You have to look past what's happened in this last year and recognise what he's done in the last 12 or 13 years.

"It's not ideal the club have just been relegated and he goes out now but at the same time everybody has to move on, Vards himself and the club."
