Ollie Palmer helped Wrexham go from the National League to the Championship
Swindon Town sent struggling Newport County to the bottom of League Two with a 1-0 win at Rodney Parade.
Ian Holloway's side briefly climbed top of the table - Walsall went back above them later in the afternoon - thanks to a cute early finish by former Wrexham striker Ollie Palmer.
It was a result to heap more pressure on Newport manager David Hughes, whose side have lost nine and drawn one since their 9 August success at Crawley.
The Exiles, who finished last season with a nine-game winless streak, now prop up the Football League after Cheltenham won against Fleetwood and Shrewsbury drew at Barrow.
Swindon hit the front in the 10th minute when Palmer, a late call-up to the XI after top scorer Aaron Drinan suffered an injury in the warm-up, flicked a Finley Munroe free-kick in off the right post.
Joe Snowdon had a chance to double the lead after 13 minutes but fired straight at Nik Tzanev from the edge of the area and it remained 1-0 at the break.
Swindon's Tom Nichols was booked for a dive in the box in the 53rd minute after a strong Cameron Evans tackle before Michael Reindorf curled narrowly wide for Newport.
Ollie Clarke hit the top of the bar in the 81st minute for the visitors but they kept a clean sheet to secure the victory.
Hughes: There was 'not a lot in the game'
