  4. Fenerbahce 'better' than Rangers - Mourinhopublished at 15:52 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March

Rangers vs Fenerbahce (3-1 on agg; 20:00 GMT)

Jose Mourinho is never the one to shy away from bold statements and it seems he vehemently believes that his Fenerbahce team is better than Rangers despite losing 3-1 to them at home last week.

"It's not that I'm hurt or that I want revenge or that we have to go and show we are better. It's nothing about that. It's just the fact I honestly think we are better.

"I'm not hurt. Rangers are not a better team than us, and I think we have a chance of qualifying," he said.

However, Mourinho did follow up this statement by saying that his team was not good enough on the night and that mistakes proved costly. Mourinho said: "But we deserved to lose because we made mistakes and they capitalised on our mistakes. They were motivated, they were fighting together, they deserved to win."

The Special One will need a special performance from his side tonight if they are to overturn the two-goal deficit. They have had an entire week to prepare for the game and they will need to be exponentially more clinical tonight than they were in the first leg.

Chelsea v FC Copenhagen (Thur, 20:00 GMT)

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca says he was "surprised" by the way Copenhagen set up for the first leg last week on their Conference League last-16 tie.

The Blues edged a narrow 2-1 win against the Danish side at the Parken stadium, which continued their unbeaten seven game run in Conference League games so far this season.

Speaking before tonight's second leg, Meresca said: "I watched many of their games and they played with a four but against us they played with five [in defence]. Then we tried to adapt. They changed completely the way they played. We don't know how they will play."

The winners of this clash will play either Norwegian side Molde or Legia Warsaw from Poland in the last eight.

  6. Chelsea preparations for Copenhagen hit by illnesspublished at 15:45 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March

Chelsea's preparations for the second leg of their Europa Conference League last-16 tie against FC Copenhagen have been disrupted by illness, says manager Enzo Maresca.

The Blues head into Thursday's game leading on aggregate after winning 2-1 away in Denmark last week.

However, captain Reece James and forwards Cole Palmer and Christopher Nkunku are among Chelsea players to have missed several training sessions this week following their 1-0 Premier League win over Leicester City on Sunday.

"For Cole, Reece and Christopher today has been their first session," said Maresca.

"They had some problems. Today they are all better. Yesterday they were not even here and two days ago they rested. Today they trained with us and we will see tomorrow if we use all of them."

Maresca also confirmed his side will still be without full-back Malo Gusto, while long-term absentees Marc Guiu, Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke are also unavailable.

Manchester United are set for a crucial second leg tie against Real Sociedad tonight with qualification to the quarter-finals at stake. United have been shaky all season long but have been impressive in Europe as they are unbeaten in nine games.

With that said, here are some of the key stats from their European campaign thus far.

    • United finished third in the group stage (five wins and three draws).
    • Only three teams (Galatasaray, Lazio and Tottenham Hotspur) have scored more goals than United in the group stage (16).
    • The Red Devils have the highest xG in the competition thus far (15.9), according to XG Score.
    • Rasmus Hojlund has five goals in the Europa League this season but has scored only twice in the Premier League.
    • United also have the highest average possession in the competition (59.3%).
    • Amorim's side completes the most accurate passes per match (489.4), according to FotMob.

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim issued a rallying cry to his players and the club as whole to improve on their underperformance this season. Amorim was asked about co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe's comments on the highly-paid players in the squad and their underperformance so far.

"If we are being honest in this moment, everybody, me, all the players, we are underperforming this season," said the former Sporting boss. "We can always change that and I include myself in that part of the underperforming.

"You are talking about players like Casemiro, for example, that won everything and we know these kind of players can play so much better."

The former Real Madrid midfielder has come under tremendous criticism this season due to his performances but whilst also being the highest paid player in the team.

Amorim will be hoping that Casemiro and others puts in a good shift tonight as they host Real Sociedad in the last 16 of the Europa League. The tie is very much hanging in the balance after a 1-1 draw in the Basque region last week.

  9. 'No extra pressure' to win in second season, says Postecogloupublished at 15:35 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March

    Tottenham v AZ (agg 0-1, 20:00 GMT)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Ange Postecoglou said earlier this season he "always wins things" in his second year of a job, but the Tottenham manager brushed off suggestions it was a comment he may now regret.

"No extra pressure," he said, ahead of the second leg meeting with AZ.

"There's always pressure there and yes, it's a big game, but, if we're successful, it'll be the same in the next round.

"People have sort of used it for their own purposes in suggesting I was making a bold claim but I wasn't. I was stating a fact. If that doesn't happen this year, then I cannot say that any more if I'm asked next year, can I?

"Maybe we will defy the odds and I do win something. You know what people will say? 'Isn't it great that he made such a bold claim.' People just use it the way they want to depending on the circumstances. Whether I win something in my second year here, time will tell."

Postecoglou has previously won trophies during his second year at Brisbane Roar, Yokohama F. Marinos and Celtic.

  10. Spurs without Danso, Bentancur for crunch clashpublished at 15:32 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March

Tottenham will be without both Kevin Danso and Rodrigo Bentancur as they try to overturn their 1-0 first leg deficit and advance past AZ Alkmaar into the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Austria centre-back Danso has a hamstring injury, while Uruguay midfielder Bentancur is suspended for the return fixture in London after being booked in the Netherlands last week.

That means manager Ange Postecoglou could pair fit-again duo Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, in the heart of defence, for the first time since 8 December.

Spurs, who are 13th in the Premier League, have been knocked out of both domestic cups and need a result against the Dutch side to retain any hopes of winning silverware this season.

  11. Pressure on Postecoglou as Spurs face AZpublished at 15:29 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March

    Tottenham v AZ (agg 0-1, 20:00 GMT)

Tottenham will look to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg as they host Dutch side AZ in the second leg of their Europa League last-16 tie.

Lucas Bergvall's own goal proved to be the difference between the sides in Alkmaar as Tottenham recorded just a single shot on target in a flat display.

The Europa League is Spurs' only realistic hope of winning a silverware in Ange Postecoglou's second season at the club, so the return leg assumes extreme significance for the Australian.

"There aren't many professions where you have to come in and answer questions like that, is there? I'll be polite and say, look, we are focused on winning the game," Postecoglou said, when asked about his future at the north London club.

Tottenham have not won since beating Ipswich Town 4-1 on 22 February.

  12. Kimmich signs Bayern extension until 2029published at 15:25 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March

Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich has signed a four-year contract extension to keep him at the club until 2029.

Kimmich's current deal was due to expire at the end of this season and he had been linked with a move to Arsenal.

The 30-year-old joined Bayern from RB Leipzig in 2015 and has made 429 appearances, scoring 43 goals and providing 115 assists.

"At FC Bayern I have the best environment to achieve my sporting goals. That is what my decision was based on," Kimmich said.

"For me at the moment, there is no better package of team-mates, coaching staff and club environment in order to achieve maximum success. I feel at home here and I am not finished yet."

    Nottingham Forest

Nuno Espirito Santo was asked if there is any change in preparation now that we are at the business end of the season and the club is in the FA Cup quarter-finals:

"We don't have to change anything, approach the game the same we have been doing all season. Trying to get as much details and prepare ourselves to compete against tough teams.

"Everything is going to be decided now, and all teams will be ready to go and we have to be ready to compete against Ipswich."

Why should Villa having won the European Cup in 1982 have any bearing on them not being underdogs? Uruguay have won the World Cup but I'm not sure I'll be touting them next year.

  16. Nuno hails 'leader' Gibbs-Whitepublished at 15:09 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March

Ipswich v Nottingham Forest (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Nottingham Forest

Nuno Espirito Santo spoke highly of Morgan Gibbs-White before tomorrow's England squad announcement.

"It is one of the big things that Morgan has been giving us, not only his incredible performances on the pitch but he is always be ready to help his teammates - his leadership, he is one of the captains. So regarding the squad, let's wait and see what Thomas [Tuchel] does, hope everybody he wants to take, he takes."

Gibbs-White had been one of the catalysts for the success that Forest have had this season. The midfielder has five goals and six assists in the league this campaign as he looks to help his club achieve Champions League qualification next season.

Time that Aston Villa started to get more credit for their run in the Champions League. They made the top eight with a few fine victories along the way, including a great win over Bayern Munich. Let's stop looking at them as underdogs, as unlike Arsenal and PSG, every other quarter final team, including Villa, have been European Cup winners before.

Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo confirmed he has a fully fit squad to choose from aside from goalkeeper Carlos Miguel: "It's very good [to have a fully fit squad], it gives us options and solutions and having everyone available is just nice to see. We’re expecting injury updates on Rico Henry, Sepp van den Berg and Aaron Hickey.

Frank may also be asked about Brentford captain Christian Noorgard who spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live about his fears of a sleeping pill addiction had it not been for the intervention of the club's sleeping coach.
