There is a chance that League Two leaders Gillingham could go five points clear at the top of the table today, if they win and other results go their way.

They host a Harrogate Town side, who have lost four out of their last five league games.

The unbeaten Gills' only blip in their last six was a 2-2 draw at Bromley, when they still rescued a point with a stoppage-time penalty.

But today's opponents have been difficult for them to beat. Gillingham have won just one of their six league games against Simon Weaver's side.

Second-placed Salford City have won their past three games in League Two, scoring at least three goals each time.

A draw today at Bristol Rovers will see the visitors reach 20 points in their opening 10 games of a Football League season for the first time since 2022-23, while a win could close the two-point gap to leaders Gillingham.

Rovers are also on a good run of form, with a draw at Colchester United last weekend following five consecutive victories in all competitions.

Salford have also never beaten today's opponents, although they have only ever met twice before.

Third placed Walsall have lost in their past three league visits to the Wham Stadium. They have an excellent playing surface here to try to change their fortunes.

Accrington won the League Two pitch of the season last season. And they are very keen to win that award again.

    The playing surface looks superb!

Both Wigan Athletic and Cardiff City are looking to bounce back from defeats in their last league games as they meet at the Brick Community Stadium.

Wigan are unbeaten in their past seven home league games, last enjoying a longer home unbeaten run between February and July 2020.

Cardiff have had a positive start to the season and currently sit fourth in the League One table, with their last league match their first defeat of the season to Bradford City.

Following their 3-1 win on their last league visit to Wigan in October 2022, the Bluebirds are looking for consecutive away league wins against the Latics for the first time.

Darren Ferguson's Peterborough have won their last two matches after taking one point from their first seven games gone

London Road is, in the most complimentary of senses, like going back in time.

Wooden seats surround me in the press box, narrow, darkened hallways with peeled paint lead you to the pitch. It's a characterful place to watch football... he says, not being a Peterborough United fan.

Posh have just ended a 14-game winless run, and many thought that Darren Ferguson could lose his job for the 10,000th time here (I jest, it would just be the fourth).

But they have won their past two, and so despite being second-bottom of League One, Lincoln, third at the start of the weekend, won't have fancied this in the way they might have done.

The Imps have spent 67% of their time playing this season in the lead, the best in the league by far. Michael Skubala's side will hope to extend a seven-game winning run.

But the wily Ferguson junior might have other plans, calling for plenty of grit from his side this afternoon.

  15. Bradford aiming to keep top spotpublished at 14:45 BST 27 September

Bradford City v Blackpool (15:00 BST)

Bradford and Blackpool have had quite contrasting starts to the season, the Bantams currently sit top of the League One table while the Seasiders are third from bottom and inside the drop zone.

Bradford have played one game more than second placed Stevenage but sit one point above them, a win against Blackpool today would keep them in the top spot come this evening.

Despite their league position, Blackpool will be coming into this game with some confidence after a 5-0 thrashing of Barrow in the EFL Cup and a league win over Barnsley last week.

Bradford have won eight of their last 11 home league games against Blackpool, the seasiders have won each of their last three league games against Bradford City, netting 3+ goals in each of those victories.

Notts County will feel they deserved something out of that but Crewe have been in that same situation themselves many times.

  20. FULL-TIMEpublished at 14:34 BST 27 September

    Oldham 1-1 Barnet

The points are shared at Boundary Park in a breathless encounter from two of League Two's newboys.

It was early drama in the opening five minutes as Oldham's Mike Fondop was deemed to have handled the ball in his own penalty area and Mark Shelton slotted a penalty past Matthew Hudson.

It was a penalty at the other end that gave Oldham their point, as Michael Mellon dispatched past Cieran Slicker.

Mellon had two chances in which to give his team the lead, through on goal, he forced two strong stops from Slicker.

Determined defending from both sides means the points are shared and honours even.
